As if it was going to make any difference trying to explain this to you... but, I'll give it one more chance.

Some parents make an argument for the NEED for such a license, because of their responsibility without any written guidance to behave responsibly. Maybe that's why so many of us are outraged when we have to read in the newspapers as to the degree their children are abused. Just because you can procreate, doesn't mean you don't have some legal obligation to keep your kid safe, which is why it's all the more difficult to read about the stuff parents can and do to their children. It's only a crime afterwards, and the police are the first to deal with this.

An officer takes an oath and most of them take it seriously. Just because "they haven't gotten laid", as you put it, you think the result of their patrol is to take away rights and liberties? I say, that kind of accusation is false.

On the other hand, there are some bad cops. Now, if you want to start a thread about all the bad cop stories, that's one thing. But, I fail to see it invite anything more than ridicule, when in fact, it should speak to a loss of what is going on at a much higher level. If we living in a police state, are you blaming all the police? I would not start there.

5. Since you asked the question, I'll answer it.

First, the connection between bad parents and this post is purely coincidental, it was Father's Day. In case you didn't notice… I was making with the dark humor. I tend to do that from time to time, but it wasn't the point of the OP at all. I started calling these Injustice News threads "Bad Cop, No Donut" on National Donut Day earlier this month. So, in case you're wondering, it was not done by me as a way for cast aspersions on deliciously greasy fat pills. It just seemed to fit the occasion.

Second, I've been doing these posts from Injustice News for quite some time now. I think that their work is extremely important to note. We all pay for these bad cops' salaries, along with the good ones who I think make up most of all of our nation's police departments, and I think we should be aware of the harm that the bad ones are doing. The harm that they're doing to the citizens, their own families and the reputation of the law enforcement profession.

Each and every one of these stories come from news articles… So, it's not just hearsay or generalized cop hatred when some city's taxpayers have to dole out tens of thousands of dollars in a settlement to a victim of gross police misconduct. Or when people call the police for help during an emergency and are abused on the scene. Or a family of an officer, who can longer take that an out of control officer's daily abuse, finally turns him or her in to the authorities. Or people who are hurt or killed when a drunken officer gets behind the wheel of a car. These are facts.

You've mentioned odd the bad parent news report that ends up in your paper every few months… Well, these reports of out of control police officers are reported all over the country 15-20 times, every single day. And that is a constant, week in and week out… I'm only posting only a fraction of what Injustice News has researched and posted in their feed whenever I do these threads, and it's not like I'm doing this every single day or even every single week. I think that we should take the time to read what they've taken the time to show all of us

Who else is doing their work?

Sunday was Father's Day, and I hope that you had a good one… But for those families whose police officer fathers (or mothers) have abused them, because they can't take the stress of police work and resort to drinking and or violence…

I read the newspaper and report what I see. You report from papers around the world. Do you see any significant difference in numbers from my sample size? Abuse is abuse.

Snark noted on whether or not yesterday was Father's Day. Of course, I knew. Maybe you should speak to some police officers who come home to face their kids after what they've be taught NOT to react to in the real world.

Perhaps you should broaden the understanding of reported abuse statistics because the only difference in what you've pointed out is a different set of "facts".

Was it me making light with the "Dad" reference? The only thing that I can say about that is that I'm glad that I'm chronically humor deficient… Even about something as serious as police misconduct.

Or was the the fact that the post wasn't about family abuse per se… Since the source info is from the folks at Injustice News, again, it's about rampant police misconduct in this country. Some of which happens to deal with reports of cops abusing their families. But, it's not the only thing that's reported.

My point about the difference in sample size actually speaks to the fact that all of us are vulnerable to police misconduct at any time. Sure, some places are worse than others, but for people who happen to run into a bad cop who's having a bad dad, the point is that something like that can happen anywhere.

About the interaction between cops and their families, I'm sure that most cops don't abuse their families. But again, the ones that do end up in the news, which is something that Injustice News reports. It's not to disparage all cops, but merely to report the ones who do harm.

Abuse is an otherwise serious issue, of course. But since you know that I frequently post Injustice News reports on police misconduct, I don't understand why you think the focus of the post should be on something other than police misconduct. Surely, another thread that focuses squarely on the abuse issue should lend itself to that rather than to this conversation, right?

About stats: Injustice News does publish their stats about police misconduct: http://www.injusticeeverywhere.com/?page_id=147 However, I don't know if what they publish satisfies your desire to focus on abuse specifically.

10. Let me clarify the focus of my contribution to this thread

This goes something like this:

With a subject like police misconduct, it's easy to expect the inevitable comments condemning this profession, which is what I've read over and over during my DU reading time. I'm pointing out that IF ANYONE (sourced in our out of these articles) really was concerned about that, we'd maybe want to understand who the offending officers of the law are responsive to.

There are laws over what police do and to whom they are accountable. Now, you mentioned that you know the name of your police chief, which is not the answer to the question, "Tell me who's in charge of your local police". The answer to the question is your local government. If you or anyone (in or out of these articles) want to increase accountability of said officers, you should examine whether the chief of police answers to a city council, or a mayor (as each state allows at that level) and what degree they perform under a state code or statute. In other words, hold them accountable by knowing how the law applies locally.

This matters.

I have nothing against criticism against ANY profession, certainly police. I just think it's a hell of a lot more productive to find the solution for these things and not just settle for the general pies in the face reaction. I would rather make the relationship between anyone's local police and citizens better - bottom line.

Oh, and yes, I look forward to the day we can all smoke a doob with a few cop friends socially, because I think alcohol is at the root of what they see every day and deal with, and it's also at the root of how they do or don't deal with themselves.
