Just saw this tweet:

wisconsinreport: Supreme Court rules in favor of GOP on budget bill, so collective bargaining law is in effect: http://1.usa.gov/kAyYCq

Link goes here: http://www.wicourts.gov/supreme/scopin.jsp?begin_date=06/14/2011&end_date=06/14/2011&SortBy=date

And this: http://www.westport-news.com/news/article/Attorney-says-court-release-in-union-case-coming-1423794.php

<snip>

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An attorney who argued before the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the case over whether Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining proposal legally passed the Legislature says he has been told the court will issue something in the case Tuesday.

Attorney Lester Pines says he called the Supreme Court clerk's office and was told that the court would be issuing something in the case. Pines says he has no idea what the court was going to issue.

A spokesman for the Supreme Court did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Fuck..

29. Gov. Walker has called WI lawmakers into a super special legislative session
Here's a link:

http://upload.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4882319

It means that the Rethug controlled WI govt is going to try to pass any and all items that are currently "too hot" to handle in the regular manner. The WI Supreme Court decision indicates (imho) that they are trying to add more fuel to the fire...

16. Thanks for the link...
On page 27, Judge Sumi provides the counter argument to her own decision: The public is not served by keeping this legislation in limbo

Inasmuch as the Plaintiffs created the state of "limbo," their complaint was specious at best and dishonest at worst.

Comment From Joanne Brown
From Justice Abrahamson: In hastily reaching judgment, Justice Patience D. Roggensack, Justice Annette K. Ziegler, and Justice Michael J. Gableman author an order, joined by Justice David T. Prosser, lacking a reasoned, transparent analysis and incorporating numerous errors of law and fact. This kind of order seems to open the court unnecessarily to the charge that the majority has reached a pre-determined conclusion not based on the facts and the law, which undermines the majority's ultimate decision.

And...

Comment From Joanne Brown
Also from J. Abrahamson: At first glance, the order appears to provide some support for broad conclusions reached on fundamental and complex issues of law. But on even casual reading, the explanations are clearly disingenuous, based on disinformation. ¶81 Justice Prosser's concurrence is longer than the order. The concurrence consists mostly of a statement of happenings. It is long on rhetoric and long on story-telling that appears to have a partisan slant. Like the order, the concurrence reaches unsupported conclusions.

18. Well, what would people do about it exactly?
Most Wisconsin public employees now no longer have the collective bargaining rights they once had. The avenue to fix this is to get out and vote for Democrats in the assembly, state senate and governors office. Once we have all 3 again we can reverse this legislation. Till then though, this is the law of the state of Wisconsin. A quick look at the ruling makes it pretty clear the 4 conservatives on the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued a very political ruling and are just going to slap down or reverse any other challenges to this law.

Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 10:28 PM by brooklynite
At it's base, the challenge against this law wasn't it's content but the process followed. In the most optimistic scenario possible, even with the recall votes, the Legislature would likely have been able to re-pass the bill.
