US military: 2 US soldiers killed in southern Iraq
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/ML_IRAQ?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-06-14-06-28-39

BAGHDAD (AP) -- The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been killed while conducting operations in southern Iraq.

Tuesday's statement didn't give details on the operations, saying only the two were killed Monday. They were not identified pending notification of next of kin.

The new deaths bring to 4,462 the number of American service members who have died in Iraq since the war began in 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

And it brings to eight the number of U.S. troops killed in June so far.

Shiite Muslim militias have stepped up attacks on U.S. forces with the approach of the year-end withdrawal of all American troops.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

The local Army National Guard transportation unit is deploying again August 6--this time to Afghanistan. I asked one NCO what they'd be transporting. His answer: "Fuel."

I plan to be there when their families and the community see them off August 6...

3. We need to get the hell out of there entirely. Afghanistan, too.
I'm beginning to think we need the draft reinstated because it's the only way Americans will wake up.

6. Appendectomy? Tonsillectomy?
I didn't realize that "operations" could be so deadly. Oh, they were military operations. Why didn't you say so? Is it because calling it what it is, continuing an illegal war of occupation, doesn't have the right PR spin?
