Before DU, I used to wage ideological warfare on the Yahoo message boards
I had a lot of fun doing that back then…

But I can't do it today, because it's glaringly apparent to me that it's been taken over by people who are hired to promote lies and astroturfed opinions.

If you just want to learn what lies are being promoted to grift us all, Yahoo is the best place to look.

1. Hey Mr. Scorpio...I started off on the nets sparing on the Excite political...
BB....actually someone there suggested I go to DemocraticUnderground. That is where I heard about here.
I remember some there were mad at me because I said Arnold was a 'womanizer'.
Fools....

5. Yahoo Boards are Useless
Edited on Mon Jun-13-11 04:43 PM by On the Road
largely because they're unmoderated. It's the Gresham's Law of the internet -- bad posters drive out good.

Makes you appreciate the posting rules and moderators on DU. This site is exemplary IMO in setting the right tone and balancing freedom and control.

I do sometimes like posting on politics forums like Fark, which are less moderated and are evenly divided down political lines. But people have tougher skins, it's not taken as seriously, and no one is primarily there for the politics anyway. Would much rather argue with right-wingers than other Democrats.

8. Well, they drove me out years ago
I used to post to a moderated USENET entertainment message board back too in the day… Then the mods informed us all that their services will no longer be offered.

It didn't take long for it to turn from a lively and polite discussion forum to a spam filled Superfund site.

Moderation RAWKS!

7. I used to have great fun on those Yahoo boards
I recall back in those days that it was at least 3 to 1 liberal to conservative. The cons didn't have a chance and they were ridiculed at every turn. Then, they changed the entire structure and moved the messages boards into a dungeon where noone went. I haven't been on those boards in several years.
