They're calling you a socialist anyway. So let your Dept. of Commerce try starting businesses to make and sell things and hire people. Call it a pilot program. Anything resembling a profit after covering expenses belongs to the USA. That's a 100 percent tax, Sir!

To the extent that the GDP of the nation consists of buying goods at one price and selling them at a markup, no particular ingenuity is required.

I would just as soon buy my Everclear and lottery ticket from a corner store owned by the federal government.

I would happily rent my DVD from such an enterprise.

If you can put seamstresses to work manufacturing clothing and hire men to pick up our garbage and recyclables and win competitive bids from municipalities, why shouldn't you do it?

If the Federal Reserve can print money to buy U.S. Treasury securities, why can't it buy voting shares of the S&P 500 and stop the layoffs and outsourcing?
