Anthony Weiner and the world's stupidest sex scandal By Susan J. Demas
There's an obvious political dimension to this yawner of a scandal. Weiner is one of the most outspoken liberal Democrats out there (yes, a few of them still exist, like the elusive Iberian rock lizard). Because he couldn't keep it in his pants in front of the camera for some special online friends of his (although there's no evidence yet of him having actual contact with them), his political future is in doubt.

Republicans have jumped on an opportunity to call for the unfortunately named Weiner to resign. So have several Dems -- inexplicably including folks like former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who throatily defended actual adulterer Bill Clinton. And saucer-eyed Nancy Pelosi wants an ethics investigation into Weiner tout suite.

But all I can think of with each passing day of this story is: Are you kidding me? Actually, there's another word in that sentence, but because this is a family column about Internet porn, I won't include it.

Let's be clear. I'm not a big fan of my elected representatives lying. But what I care about is if they're lying about policy, as in: "I will create 2 million jobs in my first two seconds as senator" or "The weapons of mass destruction are there, trust me."

Full column at the link.

1. Why do people use smart phones....
to do the stupidest things?

It's not just sex either, I've seen someone pretend to pour a beer from their lcd screen. I was at a friends house when her daughter called, bouncing the signal off a satellite 17,000 miles above the Earth, to discuss arrangements for the day's babysitting... as she was about to pull in the driveway.

I think we've finally reached the level of "Devolution" that the machines have overtaken us intellectually. In some cases, they have better personalities as well.

2. Indict the stupidest Supreme Court Justice - Clarence Thomas
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 12:42 PM by leveymg
This Weinerfest is an orchestrated "kill the messenger" campaign against Weiner for his efforts to publicize the crimes of Clarence Thomas. Thomas has violated 5 USC App. 104 on at least 5 occasions by filing false federal income reporting forms.

He may be indicted by the Judicial Conference of the United States.

In 1980, the Judicial Council Reform and Judicial Conduct and Disability Act became law, which empowered the Judicial Conference of the United States to investigate and police the judiciary and, if need be, request that the House of Representatives impeach federal judges. Most judicial impeachments since then have been based on these requests.

5. strictly speaking, "the unfortunately named weiner" gets it backwards
the name "weiner" came first. german for someone from wein, the german name for vienna.

"weiner" later became a name for a variety of sausage, for which vienna was famous.

given the similarity in shape between that food and a certain male body part, the rest is obvious.

so, it's not his name that's unfortunate; it's the later shift in using that name for something else that's unfortunate.

Too bad there are Dems joining in to make it a circular firing squad.
