Seems Weiner wasn't who was harassing her.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/11/nyregion/weiner-says-he-sent-private-messages-to-girl-17.html

-snip-

In the past few days, the girl and her family have become subjects of intense interest in the news media. On Friday, the local police arrived at their home and asked the girl and her mother to bring the girl’s phone and computer to the police station so they could be checked to make sure no crime had occurred.

The family member said the family complied, and did not expect any further action to be taken.

-snip-

When members of the group saw the girl’s post, suggesting she was engaging in a private conversation with Mr. Weiner, they alerted the congressman that they were watching him. “@RepWeiner new pal is a high school girl. First porn actresses now little girls. Weird.”

According to the girl’s family member, people in the group also copied the girl on some of the messages they sent to him, so she sent Mr. Weiner a private message telling him that she felt she was being harassed. He apologized to her in a private message, and removed her from the list of people he followed on Twitter.

-more-

Weiner knew he was being stalked.

BTW, 17 is dumb young but "little girl"? Old enough to marry without parental consent is NOT a "little girl." Inexperienced young fool? Very likely. She was bragging about talking to a celebrity.

If she had announced it was her 18th birthday, would the tone of the conversation have changed? Very possibly. Weiner IS a dick idiot.

But not even Fox and the NYT have been able to pin the much sought after "child molester" on him. And they know they have to or all their effort has been for nothing.

Is it really okay to send people that stuff as long as they are an adult?

15. Free porn? I mean, it's a lucrative business.
I suspect they'd do what the music industry did if too much free porn was getting spread around.

Really, if you want porn, you have to shell out.

Go ahead. Tell an adult woman she isn't allowed to see a picture of a penis because you're concerned for her.

Can I be there when you do it?

2. Breitbart's thugs were harassing some of Weiner's
young followers so badly that their mothers complained about it and some deleted their accounts.

One of those thugs, calling himself Patriot76 was interviewed last week and admitted that some of the things he had done might 'get me in legal trouble' in his attempt to 'get Weiner'.

He has been in trouble with the law before, and was angry that the guy who got him involved in the first place had disappeared and left him with possible trouble with the law.

When I read the Fox story I wondered if the girls' families might have reported the harassment as apparently it was pretty fierce.

This Patriot76 character also said he had not wanted to be identified as he had 'my own legal problems'. Coward that he was he was willing to harass young girls and viciously attack a 'liberal' congressman, but didn't want to identify himself.

Then, his 'handler' disappeared, without being identified (I wonder who that was, maybe O'Keefe?) and left him holding the baby as he said.

They are absolutely vicious cowardly people and I cannot believe that anyone here would help them achieve their goals. We should be doing everything we can to stop them once and for all and Democrats need to get some spine and stop caving into them.

23. That Patriot76 character
said that he had problems with custody of his daughter because there were issues with "inappropriate behavior" with his daughter. That's what you are dealing with. His partner in crime, goatsred, runs a porn site and has been in trouble with the law for assault and harassment charges.

Neither of them have any room whatsoever to be criticizing anyone for anything, but that's just what rabid right-wingers do - they commit far worse crimes (inappropriate behavior with your own 14 year old daughter? Assault charges?) and then try to bring everyone else down to their level by comparing their own bad behavior to everyone else's.

I have zero doubt those two judge gay marriage as immoral, have strident opinions against abortion rights, and consider being a liberal the scourge of the earth. People like that aren't capable of having a real conversation because they are so completely immoral, they don't realize that other people don't think in the immoral way that they do.

27. So true. They were spreading the smear that Weiner
liked 'teenagers' hoping to set that in people's minds. And to do it they engaged in fierce harassment of those girls, something maybe the cops should be more concerned about, considering as you point out, their records. It seems they were projecting as I've always suspected is the case with these rightwingers.

If there was any threat to those girls, this is where I would have been looking. Those are scary people.

As for you last paragraph, absolutely.

Very well said, Aerows. This story has been left uncovered for some reason, and also Daryl Issa's role in it. He's a US Senator, why no interest by the media in the fact that Issa's office knew those girls were being harassed by very unsavory characters, and did nothing about it?

I think it's very important to tell the whole story. I'm Rachel will do it as she is the best at putting these kinds of stories together. She fell for the Fox story on Friday too, and now two days have to go by before she can correct it. You have to give them credit, they know how to spread a smear.

5. So, the police asked them to search her tech based on news reports?
That part of the article, which is also consistent with other reports, seems odd to me.

Was it based on the police hearing about news reports or because a news organization, such as perhaps Fox, contacted the police?

I do see the family gave permission, but why and on what basis was this initiated?

8. Good questions.
My theory is that this was orchestrated to keep the story going. Someone called the police maybe telling them that they thought Weiner might have sent inappropriate messages to the girl. They get the police to go there, call Fox and it gets all over the news just as his poll numbers are going up and the public has had enough of the witch hunt.

It doesn't matter whether it's true or not. My guess would be O'Keefe/Breitbart, as this is their MO. Truth doesn't matter, just 'first impressions'.

But it may have backfired if that was the case, because as I said above, those girls families were very upset that their daughters were being harassed badly by 'rightwingers' because they were Weiner supporters.

I know the mothers complained, and wouldn't it be great if they told the police, and showed them the harassing tweets if they were not deleted.

When I saw the story I was hoping it was because the parents had called them to report Breitbart! They really liked Weiner and liked that their daughters were interested in politics and were obviously democrats. It must have been very upsetting to have that kind of harassment spoil their interest in politics.

And a real shame that people, even Rachel who must not have been following this story very closely, jumped to the conclusion that it was Weiner.

Now, I'm leaning towards Breitbart/O'Keefe calling the police rather than the families.

9. Breitbart/O'Keefe or Fox or NY Post
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20110610/NEWS/110610043/UPDATE-Weiner-admits-contact-with-17-year-old-Delaware-girl?odyssey=tab%7Cmostpopular%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE

Philadelphia news vans and a New York Post photographer were among the news media stationed outside the teen’s house trying to get an interview. No one answered the door Friday night. Someone inside the house could be seen looking out the windows, and the lights went out shortly after 11 p.m.

Police then responded to the scene after a shirtless man wielding an ax began pacing up and down the street outside the girl’s home. The man, who claimed to be a teacher, was led away in handcuffs.

The girl’s interview by police in Delaware was first reported by
FoxNews.com, which had a reporter at the home when police arrived.

10. Yes, it's funny that Fox was the first and Drudge and the Post
The same old reliable smear mongers, always ready to report the latest 'news' from the far right.

That's how they do it. Soemone, like Breitbart eg, pulls a stunt, puts up a video, Fox and Drudge report it, then the rest of the media, without doing any research on their own, pick it up and then it's all over tv.

There was a very interesting interview with Patriot76 last week which I hope I can find again (don't you love the 'Patriot' handle lol!) he didn't sound so brave in that interview anymore, after being so tough online with teenage girls. But now he's hoping to disappear. Another keyboard warrior who boasted about how 'mean' he was online, but is now hoping no one will remember him.

Anyhow, he apparently was drawn in to the plot to take out Weiner but didn't know Breitbart himself. His 'handler' the one who got him involved online, is the mystery character in all of this. He disappeared as soon as they achieved their goal. Patriot is angry as he felt he was betrayed. I guess it was fun for a while, but he was just a useful tool for them.

There was also a link to Daryl Issa's office so for quite a while he knew what they were doing. I would like to see him questioned about why he did not stop the harassment of Rep. Weiner and his young followers.

Getting tired lol and not making much sense, but this was a fierce campaign that was going on for several months and I wish Weiner had called the police himself. As a US Rep they would have taken him seriously.

12. Breitbart, Murdoch, Drudge and Issa
Quite a crew.

Found more here:

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/06/10/2941622/weiner-says-online-contact-with.html

The New York Democrat issued his statement after FoxNews.com reported Friday that officers had interviewed the high school junior at her family's home north of Wilmington.

"They were made aware of an alleged contact between Congressman Anthony Weiner and an area teen," said Officer Tracey Duffy, a New Castle County police spokeswoman. "The teen has been interviewed and disclosed no information regarding any criminal activity."

Duffy said she doesn't know what led to the questioning of the girl or whether the family had called police.

"I don't know what information they received that would prompt them to respond to this residence," she said. Duffy said the investigation was continuing.

Given the family's response, it would make no sense whatsoever for them to have called her. Looks like someone in the press must have asked the question but got a non-answer.

13. "They were made aware of an alleged contact between Congressman Anthony Weiner and an area tee
I'm sure they were. I hope it backfires completely on them. They will stop at nothing to get him. Even go as far as harassing the family and the girl by calling the police.

They must be very disappointed with the results.

The real investigation should be into who these people are. They harassed a US Rep. for months and his young followers and we know now that one of them was a person who has done jail time, who has apparently been reported by his wife for spouse abuse. And who, according to his own statements, has 'other legal problems'. This is who Breitbart sicced on young girls and imho, this is where the criminal activity is.

And yes, Issa knew what was going on according to the Smoking Gun, or I should say, his aide and they did nothing to stop it.

When will CNN be interviewing Issa the way they went after Weiner? His office basically stood by and watched as young girls were so fiercely harassed that they had to go into hiding, basically.

Rachel Maddow would probably be interested in digging into all of this. Maybe I'll send her a tweet about the Issa connection and she can call him.

Daryl Issa was also the one who wrote the ACORN defunding bill. Seems he's part of this whole Breitbart/O'Keefe campaign to 'rid the country of Liberals'.

18. Issa has quite the slimy track record
So, of course in our upside-down world that makes him the Chair of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the main investigative committee of the House,

Question: Wouldn't having his staffer involved in this be a direct conflict?

Also, good to have these links on tap. Issa has always had and currently has ethics issues himself:

24. Or maybe they were called and urged to 'investigate' since Fox
had the 'story' before the they even got there. If called with a complaint, they must investigate so there is really nothing to say that they had concerns themselves, until they received the call. Another Breitbart stunt.

The family apparently did not make the call, so that leaves the usual suspects. And it worked, they use their smear machines to get 'the story' out as fast as they can BEFORE the police can make a statement. Fox to Drudge to Rush et al, then picked up the MSM all of whom used the original Fox story.

It worked. But the facts did get out pretty fast debunking the story fairly quickly and of course anyone who has actually read the entire story of the campaign of harassment that has gone on for months against Weiner ever since he made the demand that Thomas recuse himself, knows that the families of young girls who were followers of Weiner (one of them was also following Schumer and Coons), complained about the thugs from Breitbart's operation who viciously harassed the girls, and that none of the families had any complaints about Weiner.

The media has neglected to cover the story of 'Operation Get Weiner' and who was behind it, and the fact that they may have crossed lines into the legal realm. @Patriot76 the accused wife abuser responsible for most of the snooping, admitted that in an interview last week. He told the interviewer that he 'did not need any more legal problems' and was afraid that he might have some because of some of the things he had done in his efforts to 'get' Weiner.

The second thug, his handler as he claims, has erased all of his tweets, emails and DMs since the story broke and people started looking into how it came about. He has not revealed his real name while poor, courageous, keyboard warrior, Patriot76 was identified resulting in his mug shot appearing on the Smoking Gun. I definitely would not have wanted such a person harassing my daughter or sister or anyone else.

It is possible now that the police might be interested in these two and their buddies, not to mention the fact that Daryl Issa's office was also involved although they have not returned calls asking them why.

25. See post #12 along with #5 and think about Murdoch's press
Someone contacted the police to initiate this and the police responded.
Murdoch's crews were conveniently there *before* the police arrived.

So:
Who called the police and what was the accusation?
Why did the police respond to it?
How did Murdoch's minions arrive there before the police?

Those are valid questions that merit explanation.
