Photo of the Day (JAPAN) dial up warning

Children play in the rubble of buildings destroyed by the tsunami triggered by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake in Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, on June 10, 2011. "The ruins have become a playground for children while we were waiting for the nursery school to finally reopen three months after the disaster," a mother said. (Mainichi)

Members of the Ground Self-Defense Force remove concrete ties from Sanriku Railway Co.'s Minami-Riasu Line track as part of efforts to restore the tsunami-devastated local train line along the coast in Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, on June 8, 2011. The troops arrived in the area on June 1 to remove debris, damaged ties and other obstacles scattered around the railway track over the following two weeks. (Mainichi)

University students cheer at the 20th Yosakoi Soran festival in Odori Park, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, in a show of support for areas hit by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Around 28,000 people in 284 teams are participating in the dance event, which is held here every year near the beginning of summer. Eighteen of the teams are from six disaster-hit prefectures including Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima. (Mainichi)

A giant roof ornament in the form of a shachi -- a Japanese imaginary animal with the head of a dragon and the body of a carp -- is pictured at Himeji Castle in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, on June 8, 2011. The ornament, which measures 1.9 meters in height and weighs between 250 and 270 kilograms, has been removed from the roof of the castle's main tower as the historic structure undergoes major restoration work, which started in fiscal 2009 and is scheduled for completion by the end of fiscal 2014. 1. Thanks for posting these. It shows human resilience in the face
of huge disasters. In this case the Japanese are amazing in their dignity. And the children just being children is a beautiful sight.

I am glad they are getting some positive responses, people need to know that Japan has not
given up and continues to brave the difficulties that lie ahead.
