1. Yeah, she looks very grim. I don't like that one bit. :( I think I'm going to
end up crying tonight. I just can't take this. First we lost Alan Grayson (oh and they took Keith Olbermann off MSNBC which bugged me too) and now we are maybe going to lose Weiner? I feel like a big part of me just wants to curl up and die.

3. Weiner's messages to teenage girl in Delaware.
Weiner and his people having to explain away a lot of apparent messaging between him and women who are turning out, allegedly, to be minors.

Not at all good.

They managed to find ONE 17 year old girl. ONE. And you can bet they have been looking really hard.

And her family said, Nuh uh.

79. No, and that girl's family have already said that nothing
wrong occured and that they would have reported it if it had. This was obviously a stunt probably by Breitbart again to keep this story going. A Fox reporter was at the home BEFORE the police.

Rachel should have waited and not accepted Fox's version of the story.

I'm sure she'll correct it tomorrow.

But.... I have seen posts that quote the girl's tweets here on DU. I'm guessing that it must be all over the internet by now.

Somehow, somewhere in his district there is a Democrat progressive with ambition and with a great deal of common sense and morals - which Weiner clearly lacks - who can run to replace him.

prude or country hick because the Weiner sexcapade rang some alarm bells. And now we have Rachel to add to the "prude" pile... she's just got "prude" written all over her doesn't she?

I mean for gosh sakes, he hasn't actually (been proven to have) stuck his dick in a minor yet so there's that. But carry on pretending that minors being involved in personally text messaging Weiner is ALSO no big deal. Deluding oneself that this is just some trivial witch hunt is also an impressive skill.

and not be personally texting underage girls. Period. This isn't just any guy "talking" to a young girl. Nice attempt to deflect from the truth of what's really happened here.

Laws?
Snort!

Weiner may well go to jail at the end of this and it won't be because he was simply "talking" to underage girls.

These were Twitter messages, right? Someone sends you a PM, you respond. You have a dialog. Half the time you don't know who you're talking to but a nickname. How many people give their age on Twitter? I know I don't.

We have no evidence of Weiner's weiner transgressing (yet?) but I'd lay good odds that it's out there and Rachel Maddow is putting this story into her files tonight because there's more than a whiff of bad shit ahead.

Rachel Maddow has been a very thoughtful progressive voice. She's putting this story out there now because there's deep shit that's lurking. I'd lay a bet on it. She's not a rumor monger and she's not one to "launch the propaganda".

means you aren't paying attention. She's avoided ALL insinuations up until now.

That means, imho, that there really is FIRE under this smoke.

She's getting ahead of this story NOW and I don't believe that any DUer who is concerned that Rachel Maddow is involved is so "wrong".

There have been more than a couple DU posts (like maybe a thousand) calling out anyone who dared express ANY doubt about Weiner all along.

I don't like it. A lot of people worked overtime to shut down anyone who they thought was too "sanctimonious" (and worse bullshit names).

Something is wrong. And some of us felt it in our bones.

Lots of convo about how this was a "private" matter and how unseemly it was to even dare express having a wee bit of a problem with Congressmen Anthony Weiner's sexting.

I guess I'm just fed up with the DUers who want to create a meme that "everyone" is a lying adulterous porno and that we are somehow being "culturally" backwards (yes that was also an entire thread) to even TRY to draw the line on what a Congressman should or should not do with sending out pics of his erection online.

The more interesting question is: how far will DUers go in defending Weiner?

If he were a Repub, we'd all be digging his grave.

The hypocrisy is appalling.

As for all the upcoming degrading new news tidbits and there will be plenty of them - when it rains it pours.... and of course, if the shoe fits....

And the lesson for us all - the truth hurts.

It really does.

when they are correct, they are correct by accident. Stopped clock fashion.

As for defending Weiner, I could give a shit about him. He doesn't mean anything to me. I'm not really super-"progressive" by the standards of most here, and he's never been a hero.

What I am going to defend is the right of people with unusual, but non-criminal sexual tastes to participate equally in politics. If it's shown that Weiner sexually messaged this minor, or another one, fine, he goes. But if there's just tons of tons of revelations of him sending pervy pics to adults, or maybe he has an account on adultfriendfinder, or something like that, well, I want him to fight to stay. Because I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Republican, and that is what we should do here. There may be worse to come, but let's not anticipate it until it happens. If there is worse, Weiner will know what to do, and we will not need to tell him.

Thus far, he needs to stop sex texting and deal with his addiction to it, but other than that, it is not as if he is getting drunk on Saturday night and beating people up. It is also not as if he was harassing women who did not want it. At least we haven't heard of anything like that yet.

71. Thank you for your energetic concern.
I would be embarrassed to be a Fox puppet myself.

39. There's definitely a double standard at work re: Wiener's vs. Republicans' perversion.

51. This is the maddening part isn't it? Vitter gets to ride it out
and with all his perversions, he's still there.

Yet Weiner really may be brought down. It's quite possible there are other real legal issues at work with Weiner but are they on the same level as Vitter for example? Why does one get to stay and the other doesn't?

Even more so, Clinton stayed. He didn't quit.

Sigh. I hate it.

72. Gosh, I hope not.
The Republicans are trying to kill us and destroy our country.

Republicans, and I can understand why you miss this distinction, campaign on their moral superiority. Consequently, they always look like pure shit in their scandals. It's not the lying, it's the bloody hypocrisy.

But I don't have a problem with Vitter seeing a prostitute as long as he pays her the price agreed.

I really do want government out of the bedroom and back in the boardroom where it belongs.

33. I don't think that Maddow can sink as low as Fox News, and the website is maddow.msnbc.com
Today's Rachel show should be up in an hour or so. And these accusations that Weiner has now sunken even worse than Mark Foley by sending lewd messages to a TEENAGE GIRL are so serious that they merit a real investigation - with law enforcement gathering and evaluating the evidence or lack thereof - rather than contentless, speculative cable TV talk.

55. Did you miss this? He didn't send lewd messages to the 17 year old girl.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2011/06/10/2011-06-10_rep_anthony_weiner_tweeted_17yearold_girl_but_congressman_swears_it_wasnt_dirty_.html

She was not targeted in any way and did not receive any inappropriate messages or photos or anything from the congressman," a source close to the Delaware girl told the Daily News. "If she had, her family would have filed charges.

Some conservative bloggers have zeroed-in on an excited tweet the girl posted on April 13 in which she declared, "Seriously talking to Representative Weiner from New York right now! Like is my life real?"
Two days later, she complained that Weiner was no longer following her on Twitter.

"The blogs have taken a few tweets from a 17-year-old kid and put their own twist on messages that were just kid stuff," the source said. "Her family has gone through all her accounts and not found any inappropriate messages."

38. She needs to shut up about him and stop talking about it
A fine jounrnalist like Dr. Maddow should not besmirch her career by droning on and on about an assclown like Weiner.

46. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Dr. Maddow has other info on Weiner
that hasn't been proven yet but she knows its close to proven. She's putting the story out there because there really is a fire to this smoke.

She's not a rumour monger or one to catapult the propaganda. I'm worried there's more coming and she's putting her feet in the lake to ensure she actually is on record as condemning this when the shit hits the fan.

68. This is what worries me about Weiner sticking around.
There will be more stories, more women, more details, coming out periodically. This thing will dog him forever.

And who was the one where they chanted: Ma! Ma! Where's my Pa? Gone to the White House, Ha Ha Ha!?

Yeah, we wouldn't want him to sully DC.
