So I Paid My Comcast Bill.....sort of.

Yesterday I dropped a check in the payment box at Comcast with a payment equal to 45 percent of what is due with a note explaining I will start to pay my bill in full when Networks start adding more content to shows that are carried across their lines including MSNBC,NBC.

They called me this morning wanting an explanation so I reinforced what the the intent of my note.

In the letter I said there are now 16-18 minutes of commercials per every 30 minute slot hence the 45 percent payment. I said I do not believe I should have to be the one not only spend money on products advertised but also have to subsidize advertising cost through my cable bill.

They gave me a 30% off my bill if I paid in full today so I will do the same next month.

Corporate American wants to taker over all aspects of our lives...this is a way I will fight against it.

14. Love the shopping channels.
Hate the infomercials. They are about the only thing airing on weekend mornings.

3. That many minutes of commercials?????
Yikes.
What we save by cutting the cable bill, I use to pay the yearly house insurance bill.
and NO commercials.

You picked a good time to do your wallet protest, Comcast is bleeding customers, they will go extra miles to keep them.

4. I am kicking them to the curb next week ...
I simply don't understand why
a/their channel lineups are so freakin' expensive and
b/they treat longtime customers like shit.
(Both semi-rhetorical questions).

And everytime I talk to 'customer retention' at Comcast, they fall all over themselves offering a half-assed 'deal' and then it never actually manages to show up on my bill.

I'm switching to U-verse which, having heard good and bad about them, I'll be getting 200 channels and high speed internet for almost HALF what I was paying Comcast.

Enough, already.

5. I don 't get your math
If I go to Hulu to watch 30 Rock, or use my FIOS cable to watch the "The Killing" (for example), I get approximately 21.5 and 48 minutes of programming, to which advertising is then added. That seems to be about 6-8 minutes of ads/30 minutes time slot.

I agree with your premise, and one need only watch shows from the 80s on DVD to see how muck more time is devoted to ads (and less to actual script writing), but where so you get your number? What shows do you watch that are only 12 minutes long? Do you only watch Adult Swim?

7. This is the second day in a row of numerous complaints about msnBS.
There are other networks out there that have virtually zero commercials..

10 minutes on the following channels and you will learn more about what's going on in the world than in an entire month of any of the 3 lamestream(r) infotainment channels:
Free Speech TV *
RT
RT America *
Al Jazeera
NHK World
CCTV
France 24
EuroNews
Deutche Welle
World Link TV *

* denotes Progressive opinion talk shows air on these channels

You can watch most of these online or you can pick them up on Free To Air satellite, or on the subscription based satellite providers. Ask Comcast if these channels are available and if not ask them why not.

13. Yeah, right.
You dropped it in the mail one day, they called the next.

Uh huh.

If you paid less than the amount owed, they'd post it to your account, add a late fee to the unpaid balance, and bill you the next month.

Fail.
