EU calls for US man's death sentence to be lifted, cites 'doubts regarding his culpability'
By The Associated Press – 1 day ago

BRUSSELS — The European Union's foreign policy chief is calling on the U.S. state of Georgia to lift the death sentence of Troy Davis.

Davis was sentenced to death for the 1989 slaying of off-duty Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. The U.S. Supreme Court in March rejected Davis' appeal of his sentence.

In a statement Thursday, Catherine Ashton said that "serious and compelling doubts regarding his culpability continue to persist" and warned that he "may now be at risk of imminent execution."

She added that the "EU therefore calls for a commutation of his death sentence" ...

2. Good show, EU!
The death penalty is irreversible; an executed innocent person cannot be brought back to life. It is good that some countries understand this and advocate for commutation of death sentences.

So, are you bothered by the idea of the US possibly not getting to execute someone or by the fact that another country is taking the moral high ground that this country is too weak to take or by both of these things?

Here is a plethora of information regarding the case of Troy Davis:

Lastly, here is an example of someone who was likely innocent, but was executed by Texas in spite of that:

3. If the US goes and sticks its nose into other countries then
they have the right to stick their nose into our business........

The stated policy of the US is human rights for everyone. The EU is just asking if it also applies to US citizens........

7. Agreed.
Other countries should stick their noses on our affairs more often. If we can do it, so can they.

8. Finality Over Fairness (Amnesty International)
... The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state's non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony.

Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis.

One of the two witnesses who has not recanted his testimony is Sylvester "Red" Coles — the principle alternative suspect, according to the defense, against whom there is new evidence implicating him as the gunman. Nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating Sylvester Coles ...

9. Yeah! My first thought was Troy.
Please, please let this man have some justice, if not let him go.

What a travesty of justice. Maybe we'll see this happen. Our own system took a shit on the man. I'm ashamed of American bullshit justice.
