Anthony's crying...
No, not Weiner. Every shot I see of the Casey Anthony trial shows Casey in tears, or wiping them away with a tissue.

Is she crying for the innocent lost life of her daughter, or is she really crying about her position?

Personally I think it's the latter.

Basically it is about not having face, or about an imprisoned mind behind bars.

I don't see that on this topic, becuase people with far worse actions learned and even prospered after getting through such stuff.

But mostly that I don't think news rags should set what society thinks about different policy.

The best way to handle such situations, why not use it.

2. Those are scared tears.
She's afraid of what the verdict will be.

4. She knows the verdict, and knows the likely sentence.
she's a piece of humanity that won't be missed.

3. I wonder why she just doesn't kill herself
were I in her position, I'd have offed myself months ago.

Out of guilt, if nothing else.

11. She feels no guilt. Sociopaths rarely experience that emotion. nt

5. I saw wiping, but no real tears
I can't watch it. Every time I see a pic of that beautiful little girl I become so enraged that Casey is lucky I am not in that room.

6. herself.
her daughter being dead apparently didn't stop her from having herself a fine old time for what, at least a month after it happened? is that sociopathy, the inability to care about anyone but yourself?

12. What I don't understand is why so much coverage for her and why are so
many on DU so willing to be told by the news media (so many claim to hate) who to be outraged against.

I'm not going to comment on Anthony's guilt or otherwise. That is for a jury to decide.

What I am commenting on is the extreme number of other cases where parents, foster, adoptive, steps, or other relatives torture the children in their care, some times for years, who get less press and less condemnation than Casey Anthony.

I don't know the situation around the death of that beautiful little girl and probably no one else, except for Anthony, does either.

I've heard no evidence of prior child abuse in this case. I have heard of cases of horrendous child abuse that resulted in the death of the child that barely made the media blink. And those cases were ones in which Child Protective Services knew there was abuse and did nothing to stop it.

14. There is value to this story, though.
I understand what you mean, but I do see some value to this case being so public. I also understand WHY it’s so covered. In the beginning, she claimed (30 days after her daughter went “missing”) that a brown baby sitter kidnapped her daughter and her mother jumped on it and made it a media sensation. It wouldn’t have gotten any more press had it not been for Casey’s constant lies and the pics of her partying while she was supposed to be searching for her daughter. Normally, the abuser is obviously guilty and the child’s body is lying in it’s own bed or in the hospital. This case is a surreal “made for TV” movie.

The value is exposing the myth that abuse, neglect and just bad parenting don’t exist in white middle-class America. It always has and it’s almost always covered up or denied altogether. Trust me, it’s still painful and lasts a lifetime no matter what your social circumstances are. Abuse is one part of the larger circle in our society. We need to do more to stop it and break the damned circle.

Lots of pink and red ribbons in the world. I truly sympathize and have fought for both causes. But, when will we begin to speak for those that are too young, or too frightened, to speak for themselves? Case in point, my husband is playing at a “Save the Tatas” benefit this weekend, which is fantastic. But, some of the same musicians that are playing for this benefit didn’t have the time or energy to devote to the ChildHelp benefit that another friend was trying to put together. A local club has regular benefits for women’s shelters and breast cancer research, but I get a lukewarm response to a benefit for abused children.

This was too long and I apologize for the semi-rant, but I hope that you understand that ANY attention ANY abused/neglected/murdered child gets could save one other child. This little girl can help others.

15. I can't bear to even watch that thing..or to look at her
It sickens me that no one was there to advocate for that little girl when she was alive:(

I know that family dynamics can be tough, but I have 3 friends who went to court to take their grandchildren away from their own kids when those "kids" turned out to be shitty parents.. It was not even all that costly to do, because CPS was helping them every step of the way..
