31. Haha
I like that quote. Michael Caine said something similar about the acting profession when discussing acting techniques, something like, "If you see something you like, steal it, because chances are they did from someone else."

...like you, I cut/paste to/from DU and other media. All in the name of trying to educate, and become better educated.

Thanks for what you do.

43. Okay, one more thing:
I do not think I am alone in saying that I get the majority of my news from reading what you post on DU. Though I don't "K&R" every post, be assured that I am reading them. What you note in the OP -- about what you find interesting/important -- is by far a superior selection than any televison news program, newspaper, or magazine. In fact, I think you are at the very, very top of why DU is an essential resource for members of the Democratic Left. (And clearly, from other responses here, a lot of this forum's best minds agree.)

16. Question: In your thread about the great Lib caller who punked LIMBOsevic
the title of the thread was something like "I called (LIMBOsevic)" or "I punked L." and there was a link to the transcript and audio. It *did* seem to give the impression that you, kpete, were the caller and some of the posters in the thread seemed to take it in that vein. I'm not sure. The author in the link was (STARK?).

This is a totally separate thing from my overall appreciation for the news clearinghouse function you perform for us.

Please clarify: Were you the caller who punked LIMBOsevic?!1 Thanks!1

23. Thanks for clarifying & just a tad of observation here:
Edited on Fri Jun-10-11 10:29 AM by UTUSN
(An observation, NOT a criticism: ) I didn't see that you Replied to the posters in that thread who were saying you were the caller. Maybe you did after I lost track of the thread. It would have de-muddled things in that thread.

That's why I not only use quotation marks but (one would think: ) *superfluous* graphics like *****QUOTE**** and ****UNQUOTE***** marks around all my linked material. From the beginning I would get flaming posts who were blindly confusing my opinions with linked-text, but this even went on *after* I started using the QUOTE-UNQUOTE thingy.

47. I use the "blockquote" html tag to offset material I am quoting from
another site, to make sure it is not confused with what I am saying in my own voice in the same post. I also usually use a blue font, to make the distinction even harder to miss.

24. As long as it's made clear what the original source is and who the true author is,
if original work is cited and not stolen, what's wrong with posting links and a C&P sample? It's true that some people post useless dreck (original or not), but one man's dreck is another man's treasure, and I find DU to be a valuable clearinghouse of articles and news that I otherwise would never see...

35. You probably could have stopped after your first three words
;)

If source-confusion is frequent with the OP's posts, then perhaps a more emphatic attempt to identify sources would be in order. But personally, I have rarely had difficulty (with any poster on DU) telling the original from the C&P - and when I do have difficulty it's often because I'm racing through a post with most of my mind focused on my intended reply. A return to reading-with-attention usually solves the problem...

37. It's funny because during the BushCo years
I started keeping track of reporters who simply reprinted talking points. As a result, I started noticing who didn't (both of them, lol) and since then developed a sense of who to "go to" on a number of topics. But that all started because I was pissed at Junior. lol

46. A discerning mind is just as good...
Which reminds me of a story:

A friend had decided to install a back door in his house. So he called a local architect to advise in its placement, for easiest access and not to interfere with the house's basic structural integrity, and not to cut anything that shouldn't be cut, and all that.

The architect looked around, knocked here and there, and finally took out a crayon and marked a large "X" on the wall. "This is where it goes," he said, while handing my friend a bill for $100.

"Wait a minute," my friend said. "All you did was poke around for five minutes and draw an "X" on the wall and you have the gall to charge me $100?"

The architect smiled. "You're not paying me to cut the hole. You're paying me to know WHERE to cut the hole."
