Mitt is white! Obama is black! And that may be the 2012 Republican campaign slogan.
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 06:28 PM by Cyrano
You’ll never see those words on a campaign poster. But that’s the Republican message. And it’s the one they’re planning to ride to victory in 2012. In effect, they understand the mindset of far too many people in this country.

I really don’t know if The Powers That Be will end up with Mitt as their candidate. And the reason is that many fundies who vote in primaries would never vote for a Mormon in “magic underwear.” But my guess is that, in a general election, they’ll go for the “magic underwear” before they'll go for the black guy.

If Mitt can get the nomination, he’ll probably end up winning because of a partially racist, partially stolen election. And what I mean by “partially stolen,” is that most of our voting machines are owned by companies that can make the numbers come out “right.” And states with Republican governors have already passed laws to keep many likely Dem voters from the polls.

But regardless of those machines and laws, the core of the Republican message will be: “Vote for the White Guy.”

All we can do is hope that Palin, Gingrich, Bachmann, or one of their other incredible idiots gets the nomination. But if Mitt Romney gets it, racism will kick into high gear and the “Masters of the Universe” will have themselves another puppet in the Oval Office.

2. "Vote Mitt, because God's angry at Obama for being a black man."
Oh, man could we have fun with this one.

On the plus side, Mittens isn't QUITE as dumb as Palin - almost, just not quite.

We need the ass-kicker in the White House.

21. Sure!
Cause what Black men do is kick ass......stereotypically speaking, of course! :eyes:

(what do White people do stereotypically? Get away with saying dumb shit, while
folks act like it's funny instead of stupidly prejudice? )

Remember the "scary black man" undertone of the Rethug campaign?

7. I Disagree
There is something that makes me uncomfortable about a man who turns his back on his mother and the grandparents who,to all intents and purposes, raised him with all the love and care possible. In 2000 the Census allowed people to check more than one box regrading their race. By 2010, the numbers of mixed race Americans has grown by over 50%. America has become a nation of "blended" people. Amongst the college age people I teach, every other student will tell you proudly that they are the offspring of parents of different races.

But a more subtle form of Jim Crow, "White Citizen's Councils," and the KKK aren't gone yet. And they probably have enough votes, (including the stolen ones mentioned in the OP) to get another fascist-controlled puppet into the Oval Office.

22. WTF????? No one turned their backs on anyone!
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 09:05 PM by FrenchieCat
Biracial wasn't a box that could be checked until the 1990s.

In fact, the rule till then was always.....the one drop rule.....
meaning no matter how much White you had in you, if you had some Black blood
running through your veins, you weren't White. That was the White Society telling us that,
loud and clear.

In fact, most Black folks in the United States are mixed with something......
and yet, they classify and identify as African-Americans. Why do you think that is?

And so for you to have the nerves to believe that if one is of mixed race and yet call him/herself Black....that is somehow turning their back on their White family members....
well, that is a very stupid naive way to think about race.

Sure some Mixed Black folks would rather be categorized as anything but Black,
but that usually has much more to do with self loathing and not wanting to be
classified as what, for years, was the lowest on the totem pole....

Sure, that has changed relatively recently.....and the younger generation have a different
view of all of this and feel that this is OK not to be forced to identify as Black....
but many from earlier generations, such as myself (born of a White Mother and a Black father in 1958), well, we weren't given a choice, and PLUS, we are very proud of our Black blood (even though society would prefer we be conflicted somehow), and have never thought that the thing to do was to deny one's Blackness by claiming to be "something else".

29. No, seriously. Jim Rob issued a statement that supporters of Romney and Giuliani were not welcome..
on Freedorkpublic because Romney supports anti-discrimination legislation and domestic partnership benefits on the state level, although paradoxically opposing civil unions and of course Gay marriage is out of the question. Or at least this is what Wikipedia says. According to Jim Rob, he'd "rather shut the place down than be involved in any effort to install abortionist/gay rights pushing RINOS like Romney or Giuliani into the White House!!"

Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 07:07 PM by Cyrano
As I indicated in the OP, I believe that those who hate Mormons, hate black people even more.

In many ways, our country is still a remnant of the Dark Ages. My point being that far too many will vote for the guy they hate least rather than the guy they hate most. Yeah, that really sucks, but go figure.

someone from the more moderate part of their party will paint Obama as a "socialist" or just as economically inept.

24. If Romney is the candidate for the Republicans the campaign will be about the economy.
A nod will be made here and there to other conservative issues, but primarily it will be run on the premise that Romney will create a better environment for economic growth. The interesting part will be seeing how they claim he'll do that.
