Canadian Catholic School Bans Rainbows at Anti-Homophobia Event

"We brought signs and posters with rainbows, and we were told that we can't put them up," Leanne Iskander, 16, founder of the school's unofficial gay-straight alliance, tells Xtra! "They said rainbows are associated with pride. There's so many other things that a rainbow could be. It's ridiculous."

But students pulled a little wizardry, anyway, baking rainbow-colored batter inside the cupcakes they sold for charity, according to the site. However, Iskander tells Xtra they were not allowed to donate the $200 raised to a gay group.

"We asked if we could donate to the money to the Youth Line and the board said no," she tells Xtra! "We were told to donate to Covenant House, a Catholic homeless shelter."

3. I love Canada, but the Canadian Catholic Church

has an especially heinous record. Recall the huge class action law suits brought onto the church by people who grew up in Canadian Orphan Asylums.

In the last century, the Canadian Gov. gave the Church ALL of the orphans born in Canada for about a generation or so. The Government gave them $1.25, for the care of normal babies and $1.75 for any babies deemed "retarded."

Soon, all orphan babies were considered "retarded." Very cost effective Aynn Rand thinking, and "un-educating." These types of babies didn't need to be taught to talk or dress or eat properly or read or learn anything. After they grew into childhood, if they tried to argue that they were NOT retarded, they were punished, beaten and some came to ends in sad little cemeteries surrounding these establishments.

In the late 80's or early 90's people who had grown up in these Houses of Horror Asylums sued the Government and the Catholic Church, thousands of them, and they won.

7. When hard belief that a particular book is the absolute truth is a necessary

prerequisite to being a part of that religion, things will certainly go awry.

This is the problem with religions in general. They are incapable of adapting. They assume that everything in a book is perfect and the truth and there is no possibility that they might be wrong.
