They're trying to privatize our public water and sewer systems.

Officials want to sell Ramsey's water and sewer systems to a private operator because they have become too costly.

Bids will be accepted until July 7, but residents will get the final say in a November referendum about whether the assets should be privatized.

The state requires that residents sign off on such a large-scale sale of public assets, the mayor said. But he declined to say how much revenue the sale would generate. "The borough is committed to use any proceeds from the sale to pay off municipal debt," Botta said, adding it will also stabilize taxes and "remove the uncertainty of future environmental and regulatory costs."

The Board of Public Works and the council's utilities, buildings and grounds committee have been evaluating the sale for about two years. A consultant was hired to study the system's assets and current and future environmental and water supply issues.

1. Won't it be fun when water costs too much and garbage is lying all over the street
Republicans want to sell everything public to private corps, de-regulate and destroy everything in place to help/protect people.

Their ideal is a country of a rich ruling class and poor serfs with no rights.

Don't think it can't happen, scares me to death. Your article is proof.

2. Always a bad move.
A one time payment that won't pay off much debt. What will they use to pay off next year's debt?

4. Rise up!
A for profit entity will run it with that motive, as they must.

What a great opportunity to build a community organization and ally with existing networks! Good luck!http://www.amazon.com/Organizing-Social-Change-Midwest-Activists/dp/092976594X

6. The system is not too costly. That is just the excuse the sellers are
using to carry out Milton Friedman and the University of Chicago plan to privatize the whole damn world. This has happened in most of the countries around the world and our nation used their pressure to carry it out. We need to begin to recognize what is going on or they will sell everything out from under us.
