Another Weiner Thread. Please take note of the Democrats that are calling for Weiner to resign.
I bet you won't find a true Progressive/Liberal among them. Taking Weiner out would suit them just fine.

What he did was stupid, but it's up to his constituents to decide if they want him to represent them. Everyone else should just Shut Up!

I am a proud NYer and am still pissed that Spitzer resigned.

of being mentally stable. He worked during the height of the suffrage movement and was an advocate opponent, because he thought they shouldn't be allowed to vote because being born without a penis makes you permanently mentally incompetent.

Appalled, Welch Reacts To Weiner Scandal

Tuesday, 06/07/11 4:24pm and Wednesday, 06/08/11 6:34am
Listen (2:40)
MP3 | Download MP3 - Vermont Public Radio

Bob Kinzel
(Host) Congressman Peter Welch says the confessed behavior of New York Representative Anthony Weiner is "outrageous, reprehensible and inexcusable."

Weiner has admitted to sending sexually explicit emails and photos to a group of women.

Welch isn't calling on Weiner to resign at this time, because he wants the House Ethics committee to have an opportunity to gather all of the evidence in the case.

<snip>

Welch's reaction was swift and clear.

(Welch) "I was appalled at the breach of trust to his wife, to his colleagues and to the press he flat out lied and he lied to many of us who are his colleague in Congress. So the behavior and the lying about it is unacceptable and really was a breach of trust. And it does a lot of damage obviously to people's already fragile confidence in this institution of Congress. So it was really quite egregious behavior and was very upsetting."

29. Yeah, I can understand the other Dems being pissed because
this causes a lot of flak for them. A breach of trust -- well put.

But as the OP said, it's ultimately up to his constituents and if I were in that group, I'd want him to keep fighting the good fight.

I'll say it again, I'm so sorry this happened on so many levels. I hope we can all move on and that his marriage and political career survive. :(

10. Yes, I noticed.
Weiner needs to talk to the Clintons about how to survive an ambush from the vast rightwing conspirators and go on to be able to laugh in their faces.

People have short memories, this is NOTHING to what Clinton was subjected to for years. Eventually the public began to wonder what all the fuss was about. A man cheated on his wife! He likes sex! And they decided that the inquisitors and the media hacks who were so obsessed with Clinton's personal sexual behavior were really the ones with the problem. He left office as one of the country's most popular presidents.

I say leave it up to the American people. We are not the ones obsessed with other people's personal sexual lives.

26. Someone's personal sex life is the last thing anyone should care about considering
the state of our economy and of our government. Our country is in enough trouble and if Weiner can make it a better place, with a truly good heart when it comes to helping "we the people", screw the naysayers.

And BTW...most people lie about sex. You sound like you would have impeached Clinton.

I'm more upset that Pelosi thinks Weiner's stupid stunt deserves an ethics investigation but when it came to investigating the liars who started the war in Iraq, impeachment was "off the table".

60. Because Weiner's lies don't affect the lives of most Americans
the lies told about public policy hurt everyone. And I am offended that Pelosi and other Democrats (as well as Republicans) treat lies told about a stupid stunt more seriously than they do lies that have done serious harm to the country.

14. selling out Main Street and out-GOPing the GOP are a-okay with them
millions dead for oil? WOOfuckingHOO! USA! USA!
but if an actual lib (and not a conservadim with a personality cult that keeps screaming how lib he is) sends naughty pics and is caught in an obvious smear apparatus, oh, then they say he's shameful and must leave immediately
note, too that nobody's screaming that these Blue Dogs are purists weakening the party by calling for a purge: only libs can harm the party, because they want higher standards in terms of better policies proposed and passed
it's also why they blame Nader when every mainstream and alternative news source agrees that Jeb and Katherine Harris stole Florida: everything about their ideology, policy, and policymaking politics prefers to work with and support conservatives and Republicans: that's why Lieberman and Zell, not Dean, are palling around with ManBaby Beck; that's why Pelosi, not Kucinich, demanded that * be protected from his crimes; that's why Obama, not McKinney, is making a sham of standing up to El Salvador on the Mediterranean (Israel)
ConservaDems vote for war and social cuts because that's what they're for: not because we didn't vote for them, not because the filibuster exists, not because they simply HAD to pass it in order to get good things for us peons
and guess what, America's non-elite and "we need to increase enthusiasm for the party" types: if your choice is between two opponents of SocSec or your favorite social program--THAT PROGRAM ISN'T GOING TO BE PROTECTED BY VOTING FOR ONE OF THOSE CANDIDATES

16. I'm a liberal progressive who thinks he should resign.
I know that he is an unrepentent liar who would never have come clean had right wing bloggers not gotten even more explicit photos with even better sources.

The only reason that he is telling you the truth right now is that right wingers have forced him to, not because of regret, or epiphany, or because he was all of the sudden overcome with a sense of respect for you or me, he couldn't give a crap about how he treats those who supported him. I repeat, the only reason he ever came clean is that right wing bloggers made him, no other reason!!! To make matters worse, Weiner made Breitbart an honest man (in this episode) while the "liberal/progressve" turned out to be a sick liar.

Disgusting!!!!

34. I agree it's up to his constituents, but I think he crossed
the line from "private" because of his position. He was reckless with the rep of the Democratic Party by using his real name and photos - that's what pisses me off more than anything. It isn't just affecting him like if he were an accountant in a small firm somewhere - much broader ramifications.

That being said, I'd like to see him stay and get beyond this. And be less selfish in the future.

It's his own dumb fault for doing something reckless and stupid as a public servant.

Now he's a distraction. The MSM loves to avoid issues that are unpleasant for Repubs (the Ryan plan being bad for America), and this excuse to focus on something else was handed to them on a platter.

But go ahead and create your 'blacklist', or whatever you call this roster of pols calling for resignation.
