Kaine calls on Weiner to resign

Tim Kaine, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee who is now running for U.S. Senate in Virginia, is calling on New York Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign after he admitted he engaged in sexually explicit exchanges with women he met online and then lied about it to colleagues and the public over the past week.

Kaine is the first prominent Democrat to publicly demand Weiner's resignation, though others have distanced themselves from him in recent days.

“Lying is unforgivable,” Kaine told a CBS-19, a Charlottesville television station on Tuesday. “Lying publicly about something like this is unforgivable and he should resign.”

The former Virginia governor’s comments echo what several Republicans have said — including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.).

“I certainly don’t condone his activity, and I think he should resign,” Cantor said.
