So I was strolling through a gubmint building in DC last week and passed this . . . .

I wanted to stop and get a picture of it as I had never before been on the second floor of the Cannon House Office building. I stood across the corridor from it and was fumbling to find my iPhone. As I was doing that, two young women - college age, likely, interns, possibly - came walking up really fast, almost running, as if on a mission.

They stop in frot of Leader Pelosi's office, right at the sign in my picture above. One of the two young women strikes a pose as her "running mate" focuses her camera. The posing young woman, dressed in suitable office attire, and, I now notice, sporting an elephant pin on her right breast, makes a mean face and flips the bird to the sign. The other one snaps the picture, complete with a flash. They look at me, codgerly as I am, start giggling aloud and one of the says, "Let's get out of here!" With that, they scurry back down the corridor, around the corner, into the stairwell, and they're gone.








I find my camera, snap the image above and move on.

It was about 4 pm last Friday, and the building was nearly empty as the House had just recessed for - what is it this time? - two weeks?

6. All the buildings on Capitol Hill are open to the public with no security clearance needed.

I have business at Ag and Interior and need an ID badge to get in - or an authorized escort. To get into any Senate or House building or into the Capitol itself, one need only go through a metal detector.

The People's House remains reasonably open. Credit your legislators of both parties for that. They didn't want to stop constituents from visiting them. Or bagmen, I might also surmise.
