POINT #1: The First Do you realize that President Obama is the FIRST Democratic President to accomplish pushing Health Care Reform into law? President John F. Kennedy started the fight for health care reform and REPUBLICAN Lawmakers knocked it down, President Johnson continued President Kennedy’s fight and REPUBLICAN Lawmakers knocked it down, President Clinton resumed the challenge and REPUBLICAN Lawmakers knocked it down.
Come to think of it, EVERY major universally beneficial legislation that we cherish today was introduced by DEMOCRATIC Presidents and fought against by Republican Lawmakers INCLUDING Social Security and Medicare!
POINT #2: The Public Option If you review EVERY campaign speech in which the President mentioned Health Care Reform, you will find that he NEVER termed it as the “public option”. He always described Health Care Reform in President Kennedy’s and later Senator Ted Kennedy’s terms - “QUALITY, AFFORDABLE, HEALTH CARE FOR ALL”. The term “public option” popped up during the 2009 health care freak show and got stuck as something the President promised, but he never did.
POINT # 3: Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day It has taken years for Social Security and Medicare to develop into what they are today. ORIGINAL Social Security and Medicare legislations didn’t cover half of the benefits they cover now. The hardest part was getting them signed into Law. Once that happened, than they could be amended to encompass more. THE SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM!
POINT #4: What the Democrats Giveth the Republicans Will Taketh Away You can see the DRASTIC amendments Republican Lawmakers are proposing to change Medicare from what it was originally intended. If you want more from Health Care Reform, you’ve got to protect it. Republican Congressional AND state elected officials are, already, sneaking in amendments that chip away at Health Care Reform. These amendments are affecting women’s and children’s preventive health care coverage, prescription drug coverage, and WHO can be covered. Call the Republicans out on it through Congressional, gubernatorial and legislative office calls, letters, emails and through social networking. Tea Partiers aren’t the only one who can be “squeaky wheels”!
