Beck's radio empire imploding as 2011 begins -- whacked in the Big Apple!

January 04, 2011 5:17 pm ET by Will Bunch

Glenn Beck's new year started a few days late, with a signal that he's hoping that 2011 will be even more momentous than the first two years of the Obama presidency, when his massive resistance to the White House catapulted the right-wing media icon onto the cover of Time magazine and made Beck a millionaire many times over.

"We cannot as a nation survive much longer," said Beck in a New Year's message posted on his website, not unless there is a "fundamental transformation" -- quite an ironic statement since many of Beck's biggest fans turned away from Obama because of the president's use of that very same term.

Added Beck: "We must take a page from our own history at the Alamo and 'draw a line in the sand.' We must decide who we are, what we are capable of and look to the heavens to chart our course...I will not accept that America's best days are behind Her, that there is no such thing as American exceptionalism." To add some meat to his verbal bravado, Beck -- who reportedly earned $32 million in 2009 and certainly topped that last year -- also claimed he was hiring 40 more people to build a new division he called E4 Experiences, for Enlightenment, Education, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship.

The new Beckian blast of bluster could serve one other purpose: Covering up that fact that Beck's most fundamental enterprise -- the radio network that launched the one-time failed "Morning Zoo" jock to national stardom in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks -- is fast imploding behind him.

Today's blow is the most significant and the most shocking: Beck will be off the air in America's largest media market, New York City, in a matter of days:

3. So he'll be like the guy who stands on Michigan Ave
here in Chicago yelling about the Russians having a earthquake machine? Cause I kind of feel bad for that guy, I don't want to feel bad for Beck.

4. Come on, get real. He is a multi millionaire. You will never see him on street corner.
And I suspect that another NYC station will pick up his radio show. And he continues winning his Fox News time slot often beating MSNBC and CNN combined.

A conscience. Not particularly to punish him, but to make a decent person of him.

5. I'm glad he's off WOR, but what does that have to do with Murdoch
WOR isn't owned by Murdoch and Beck's radio show isn't syndicated by Murdoch.

26. There are rumors to that effect
I've heard stories of people requesting that the channel be changed and this being provided as an excuse. It is totally something I could see Fox doing but who knows.

21. While reading this little ditty, I noticed that Beck brought up
the Alamo.

While there is no doubt about the courage of those at the Alamo, from a military point of view, either strategically or tactically. The "line in the sand" was a suicide pact, something Beck seems well acquainted with.

There was no reason to fight at the Alamo; there were obvious weaknesses in the fortifications; there was no hope of a relief element; all things considered, it was a waste of lives that could have been better spent joining Sam Houston and kicking Santana's ass at San Jacinto.

So Beck...draw you "line in the sand"...it is a suicide pact, and those around you will run at the drop of a hat.

22. Mr Beck and his supporters have seized their chance
to spew hatred and discontent,it's working for them, but America is suffering because of their greed and hate.In a Christian society that gang of evil, devil worshipers would be turned out to pasture never to be heard from again, but we live in a time of money loving Godless evil men and women and the good men and women are afraid to rock the boat.As a Christian I am sure their days are numbered, the evil ones always receive justice in due time.
