I agree with Spain - why did Germany blame Spanish cucumbers for
this outbreak. It's going to cost them big time.

<snip>
Everywhere you look in Almeria there are greenhouses. Plastic sheeting stretches for miles in every direction covering vast crops of fruit and vegetables cultivated to supply the rest of Europe all year round.

But ever since German health officials linked cucumbers from Almeria to a deadly outbreak of E. coli, business here has been in free-fall.

All tests for the rare E. coli strain have now come back negative, but the reputation of Spanish producers has already been shattered.

Fear spreads far faster than facts.

1. Why did the US blame Mexican tomatoes?

Economic nationalism, protection of the home industries.

2. One way to avoid these "economic catastrophes" is to monitor and test
produce and PROTECT THE FUCKING PEOPLE!!!! If Governments would focus on protecting people from poisons and unsafe chemicals or fertilizers, then these things wouldn't happen...at least, not nearly as often, and it would be a freak incident or an absolute act of terrorism.

Governments and markets benefit when the PEOPLE are taken care of FIRST AND FOREMOST.

When in the hell is this world going to wake the fuck up?

5. Why was 1918 Flu Epidemic called the "Spanish Flu"
Why is syphilis "The French Disease" in one country, "The Spanish Disease" in another, and "The English Disease" in yet another?

Deep questions these?

Hardly would have expected the Germans to have blamed themselves.
