The total cost of America's two wars, including congressional funding through the end of the current fiscal year, is $1.26 trillion — $797.3 billion to Iraq and $459.8 billion to Afghanistan. These figures, based on an analysis of legislation and research by the Congressional Research Service, include nonmilitary spending such as reconstruction.
For fiscal 2011, the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that 58 percent of discretionary spending goes to the military. Such spending has been trending up for more than a decade. From 2001 to 2010, it increased by 71 percent — almost three times the rate of increase in domestic discretionary spending, which rose about 24 percent.

These costs don't include the destroyed lives (not just Americans), medical costs and suffering for millions - many for the rest of their lives, nor the destruction of Planet Earth.

including long term costs for both wars.

You can't just blame everything on Republicans. Democrats do plenty of shitty, shitty things, too.

3. Americans seem to like war, for most it's out of sight, out of mind. The MIC

makes a hefty profit and the masses are told it's for the good of the country. It's another paradigm this country has that needs to change. How it will come about I have no idea, maybe when the country is totally bankrupt and falls apart like other empires. This country has been in a tail spin since 911 and still continues to spend and spend on wars.
