Boy Fights Off Bully to Save Kitten From Being Beaten to Death
Last Saturday, 9-year-old Jamarea Mills and his brothers were enjoying a sunny day at a playground in their Suffolk, Va., neighborhood.

They were petting and playing with a stray cat when a 12-year-old boy came in, grabbed the kitten, and began beating it with a log. Then he took the kitten, climbed up on a piece of playground equipment, and threw it off.

“I was sad. We tried to tell him to stop but he just kept doing it,” Mills said.

The boys watched the attack, feeling helpless to do anything about it, until the older boy took out a knife and threatened to cut the cat.

5. The abuse of animals is an extremely bad sign for a young adult.
Many who grow up to commit far worse crimes started with defenseless animals. I hope the bully can be get the help he needs. If we don't help him now, we'll be paying later.

57. Future ex-con.
I don't really think you can change someone who is that violent at such a young age. Psychopath....no sympathy, no empathy. Just cruelty.

He'll ruin lives where ever he goes.

This is much more serious than 'bullying.' Much more.

for his education, I'd donate something, too. I've always thought it must be more difficult to become a vet than a human doctor. Doctors have to learn about one animal, humans. 22. I agree wholeheartedly! Somebody needs to get that kid a lot
of help before he does something worse. Everyone knows that kids who hurt animals go on to do progressively worse things, but too many kids don't get the treatment they need. Hopefully, that kid will get the help he needs and Jamarea's actions will have not only saved the kitten, but the bully kid, too.

58. "There is no such thing as a bad boy"
Fr. Flanagan's quote seems appropriate but but There is little chance this child will receive the help that he needs. We don't have institutions capable of correcting bad parenting. Perhaps the Church was capable of doing this in 1910 Ireland. I suspect that it was more dream than reality. I have seen heroic individuals making a difference. I hope that someone will try. The real tragedy is the child that did this.

27. "The 12-year-old abuser is charged with one count of misdemeanor cruelty."
This is unacceptable. Animal cruelty should be a felony in all states and his parents or guardian should be required to take the boy for testing. I'd suggest Robert Hare's test for psychopathy. The next 'creature' he does this to will be a human.

49. The young boy should be commended and that reinforced.
He did the right thing in the face of the animal cruelty he witnessed.

My oldest cat came into our home with a similar story. She was feral, only about 5 weeks old, and a group of second graders decided drop-kicking her repeatedly was fun! Another hero child snatched the kitten who was turned over to the SPCA. I adopted her from the SPCA with two limbs badly fractured in casts, she and the casts weighing a whopping 1 lb total! Lu is now 11 years old and tilts the scale at 28 lb.

I'm very sorry the kitten of this OP didn't make it, probably sustaining internal injuries and rib fractures. But the story inspires and underscores how important it is to teach our children compassion and the spunk to do what's right.

Sorry, my wife sometimes likes to review what I have posted. She's upset easily by animal abuse.

Adults are not always around. Children have to learn to socialize without their parents always being present.

Agree with the therapy, but it is unlikely it will help much. Sociopathy, as I understand it, is not a mental illness so much as a basic personality defect.

107. Doesn't have to be parents. 9 year olds should not be playing without supervision
in a public park. I realize that the 12 year old was the perp.

And even if they weren't supervised, any adult also in the park should have intervened.

I hate animal (and child, and adult) abuse too.

48. yes--that kind of anger doesn't come from nowhere in a 12-year-old boy
He sounds like a horrible, horrible person so it's tempting to blame him entirely, and I suppose it's possible that he's just a bad seed and his parents are wonderful, but the odds are very much in favor of his having been treated much like he was treating that kitten.

At times like this I am glad there is an impartial justice system. No one would even want to hear about what I would to to that psychotic little shit if given the opportunity. It would make Cheney's blood run cold.

61. Proud to be rec 100 for young Mr. Mills.
What a hero - not just to stand up to a kid three years older, but one who was obviously merciless and armed, as well.

As long as the world has such wonderful people in it as young Mr. Mills, we all have hope.

82. You know a bully doesn't just hurt animals,
they bully humans as well and they need to be trained and controlled early on in their lives.
If we want a better society, we need to start that training from the first day when they start school.
That education is important and will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
I'm also aware that some can't be changed, but fortunately, most can.

98. A little harsh, don't you think? Peer pressure is powerful.
I think we can safely give more weight to the boy's actions at the end of the encounter than to those at the beginning, if we believe in growth and progress.

He allowed the 12 year old to beat the cat with a log and throw it off playground equipment. He didn't do anything to help the cat.

I don't think he's a hero.

110. Easy to say as an adult from the relative safety of your keyboard
I'm sure that when you were growing up, you were quite the little Superman, leaping in to right whatever wrongs you saw, regardless of the personal danger you may have placed yourself in.

Maybe the kid was frozen with shock and fear? Quite a normal reaction in such a circumstance. The fact is, he was able to overcome his fear and step in. But of course, I'm sure that you have NEVER been faced with a situation where you were frozen with fear.

It was told in the story 'A brave new world' and that was written decades ago, more then 50 years ago.

Basically those that wont conform to a control system are sent to 'a beach' and it is easy to create a virtual isolation with information control.

Also was the part about 'quantum pockets' in the TV show First Wave. Although First wave was taken over in season 3 or 4, when the new administration put its people into media control, and the narratives dramatically changed.

One of the 'doctrines of existence' is lab, hence why lots of noise to create no data is a good idea. And also learn to find blow back, and learn as much as you can at the same time. Although I don't think that is existence, I do think some would like to have those systems in society.

And I am due beer and travel money, and many experiences.

Since the possibility exist of organized harassment that has not properly corrected the beer and travel money issue, I think on this video occasionally. It can also be about society. What will you put up with, and will you 'go along' with something you know is wrong like slavery.

103. The show First Wave, is a great study in sectors..
The show starts out about building education, and spreading the story.

Best line in that entire series.

"Today our army grows by one"

If you watch all the episodes, you see the change over, after the episode where he is cloned and shot. After that the show goes all violence and uses many symbols, and uses ugly as bad, opposite of first part of series.
