Branding the GOP
The Republican Party has been brilliant at branding their opponents over the decades. They find emotion-filled tags that resonate with a short attention span public and they freaking stick with the branding come hell or high water. For years the public had in their minds that the GOP was the party of "Fiscal Responsibility" and the Democrats were "Tax and Spend Liberals" or "Soft on Defense". Even today people will tell you they vote Republican because they are fiscally conservative.

You have to hand it to the GOP. They know how to make a good label stick and stay on message.

The Democrats, however, suck at this. In the bigger picture that is actually a good thing. Democrats are usually critical thinkers who weigh their words carefully to avoid false statements, empty rhetoric, and hyperbole. The problem with this strategy is that Americans are humans and are best targeted at that primitive brain level using fear.

Given the inability of Democrats to get a good message that sticks, I propose that we at DU help them with some GOP branding ideas. These slogans need to be true or else the Dems (bless their hearts) won't use them. I respect that. It shouldn't be hard, however, to develop a true tag line that paints the GOP with the brush of fear.

For instance...

Republicans: Too Irresponsible for America

That might not be good because the word Irresponsible is long and has more than two syllables.

How about...

Republicans: Reckless and Wrong

That one is simple and has alliteration. It could work.

So, let's come up with some great tags for the GOP that we can pass along to the Dems. Perhaps we could vote on the best ones and create some 30 second commercials.

Who's game?

3. You could also do this by issue.
The GOP: A Smaller Government, so it fits in your bedroom.
The GOP: Increasing the Debt for decades, suddenly upset about it now.
The GOP: The Super Rich have suffered enough.
The GOP: Decent wages increase unemployment.
The GOP: Decent medical benefits increase unemployment.
The GOP: Public education is socialism.
The GOP: Science is just a Theory.
The GOP: God talks to our candidates.
The GOP: Defending Marriage, Divorce, and Adultery.
The GOP: Charity begins with the Oil Companies.
The GOP: Medicare and Social security are Gay.

I had to stop ... I could do this all afternoon ...

Some of them are just stupid assholes. Some of them are just crazy racists. Some of them are just racist assholes. And some of them are just crazy and stupid.

20. Could draw a venn diagram.
The circles would be:

Stupid
Assholes
Crazy
Racists

And the point where these circles intersect, might be labeled GOP Leadership.
