So let's say that was one of Weiner's photos...what mediums could it have been hacked from?

Emails certainly. Public wifi maybe? Are text messages vulnerable too? Can someone hack into your phone?

1. If he used his laptop in a public place with a wireless connection
couldn't his own computer have been hacked?

2. Yes, Yes, and Yes...
A good hacker can pull from those if they are left unprotected. Cell phone wireless is a little trickier as it is generally more secure, but it is possible with the proper knowledge and tools.

3. Well that certainly gives one pause.

I'm thinking 3G is better than public wifi.

Not that I am contemplating taking pics but the whole security issue is worrying.

4. If you really want disturbing....
I'm currently taking classes to get my masters in Computer Science. As I take the undergrad prereq classes, they are actually teaching us how to hack. Obviously, their intention is to give us the skills to properly be able to do our jobs and understand the vulnerabilities of various operating systems and networks so that we can understand how to avoid opening systems that we administer to malicious hackers. However, not everyone who takes these classes will necessarily be on the side of good...just think of all the people out there taking a computer science course just to fulfill a requirement, learn these basic skills, and then are let loose on the world. If that doesn't give you the heebie jeebies, nothing will.

I don't doubt for a moment that someone who has taken a few computer science classes and has been brainwashed by the right could think he/she was doing the world a favor by taking advantage of a security hole to discredit a very prominent political target.

9. And some folks, learn these skills on their own
I know enough of this to know my puter and digital life is NOT secured, no matter how much security I put. Anybody motivated enough.... the only secure system is the one isolated from the web... PERIOD... aka not even attached by physical or wireless means.

6. ...it was an exploit of a vulnerability

Pretty easy..easier than a hack...I'm not going to go into it in detail..there's plenty of resources you can google..

Similar thing happened here..

Someone posted a full-frontal naked photo of MMA fighter Tito Ortiz through his Twitter page moments ago ... but Tito insists it was the work of a hacker. The photo surfaced just a few hours ago -- when it was uploaded to Tito's personal photo-sharing website ... which is connected through his Twitter page. The photo (seen above) appears to be a naked self-portrait shot with a cell phone. And let's just say ... there's a reason he had to shoot from such a wide angle. Moments ago, Tito tweeted, "Someone hack my f**king phone."

7. Cellphones can be tapped
Rupert Murdoch was caught doing that. If Weiner sent a pic over his phone to his wife and his phone was tapped, a third party could have gotten a copy.
