Is Twitter no longer a reliable way to network?
I'm watching Weiner's interview with Wolf and all I can think about is what an incredible impossible situation to have to explain EVERY strange comment written by some fangirl.

Why bother?

2. It's subject to hacking just like anything. I find that professionals are more likely to use Twitter
...these days, than Facebook, unless they are posting photos of their baby.

3. Was it ever "reliable"? That's like asking if IRC is "reliable".
It is what it is.

4. No way I would use Twitter to promote myself or my business.
I just don't get how it works, and the posts are gibberish at times.

Seriously.

FB is bad enough.

13. I love Twitter because it is very low maintenance unlike FB.
You can just set your stream up to follow people or topics you care about. You don't have to read everything, you don't have to delete anything, you can do as much or as little as you like. The posts are short enough to scan quickly so if your time is limited, you can cover a lot of ground.

5. I'm going back to using carrier pigeons
No, public forums are not reliable methods of networking.

6. Twitter was never about networking...
Twitter always has been and always will be about pure unbridled narcissism. The only people who like to claim it's about networking or that it's a useful tool for business or whatever are people who want to justify their own narcissism.

8. K&R! I can't believe how even here, there are some people that believe if they
saw it on twitter, then it must be true.

Sheesh!

12. Twitter is like any other source, you need to check it.
But it is very efficient and you can get a good snapshot of things if you know your way around it.

14. Sadly, most of the twitter quoters seem to ignore that and just post it raw.

9. I got an insert in my gas bill invoice yesterday...
saying Follow us on Twitter

Seriously? Why would I follow my gas company on twitter?

Seriously, this is a real question. Maybe there is something I am not "getting" about Twitter.

16. Same with my bank: "Follow us and let us know about your ATM experiences."
Really? Self-promotion and marketing -- you're not missing much.
