Japanese seniors volunteer for ‘suicide’ nuclear jobs
Source: RawReplay

Called the “suicide corps” by one official, they say all they want to do is be of service if the jobs might risk the lives of younger people. While the government hasn’t yet said whether they would be used for any such purpose, talks were reportedly underway.

We are not stupid..
No real info or reports of Progress at the plant site..
Its so bad to date that Japan is looking at suicide volunteers to work at the site...
In recent days workers who have had lethal doses are know being reported....
Not one word from the U.S. Government on contamination levels that have arrived here...
NONE......

11. No suicide.
There are far higher doses allowed for emergency workers cleaning up a spill. Those higher doses will increase cancer rates in 20-30 years, hence why these 70 year olds want to do the work. There is no increased risk for them, because they will already be dead in 20-30 years even if they get zero radiation.

5. Not suicide as such.
Just old people drawing a logical conclusion about radiation. A relatively heavy dose is unlikely to cause enough damage to kill them before they are due anyway while younger people have more time to develop complications.

6. The Japanese nuclear event is dire.
There is on the order of 50X of nuclear materials that escaped from Chernobyl at the site counting spent fuel pools.

There does not appear to be a workable plan in place except to let nature take its course in a human-caused event.

The lack of media coverage and lack of reporting by US Agencies creep me out.

I am amazed by this website. There have been 1271 earthquakes over 4.0 magnitude since March 11, 2011 in Japan.

Chernobyl 'jumper' airs Fukushima fears
By SITI RAHIL
Kyodo

Singapore — Sergei Belyakov, a scientist who helped clean up debris after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, is worried about Japanese workers now risking their lives to contain the aftermath of core meltdowns at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

"I really feel sorry for the situation in Fukushima, honestly," the 55-year-old "jumper" in Chernobyl said.

Jumpers were the workers who risked their lives by "jumping" into highly contaminated zones at the damaged nuclear station in Chernobyl, rarely spending more than seconds in the danger zone before jumping back out to safety.

Now a U.S. citizen and scientist working for Albany Molecular Research Inc. in Singapore, Belyakov recalled his 40 days in Chernobyl in 1986. "The reason why I am so affected (by the Fukushima disaster) is that I feel for these guys who work at the station as jumpers because every day goes by they will have much more effort to clean it up and more health and lives will be lost..."

8. "Suicide corps?" What nonsense.
The maximum allowed radiation dose for any of the workers is far below the level where you'd even feel a noticeable affect, let alone get sick.

10. Rather obvious (and disgusting) implicit reference to "kamikaze"
Instead of calling it brave and heroic service for others, it is labeled "suicide mission" to get people thinking of "crazy" Japanese.

12. Bonobo san..
I rather am inspired by the original use of the word "kamikaze" originated as the name of major typhoons in 1274 and 1281, which dispersed Mongolian invasion fleets, thus preventing them from invading Japan. The stories of that event are wondrous, and almost magical.

13. The only people who should really be on a suicide cleanup squad are
the ones who were involved in cutting safety measures to save money, whether they're in government or industry.
