I lost my inheritance to the doomsday prophet!

Eileen Heuwetter was shocked to find out that her deceased aunt left nearly her entire estate to Family Radio, the group behind predictions that the world would end May on 21.

4. While I hate the con...
this woman has no right to expect an inheritance. A person has a right to spend their money any way they wish. I'm sorry that they are unsatisfied with their measly $25,000.00.

6. wasn't yours to lose, you grasping whiner
I hope I have no need to reiterate my contempt for the conman clergy and his fleeced sheep but anyone whining about "losing" any inheritance has no credibility with me (excepting perhaps heirs who worked for a family business for reduced or no wages with the express understanding they would inherit in return for their efforts. Fully compensated work or voluntary assistance freely offered do NOT count as exceptions though). What the hell is an inheritance? Getting wealth handed to you for nothing more than a genetic accident. Sure, people who die can do with their goods whatever (legal) they like, and probably most of them choose to give most to children of theirs. All fine and dandy by me, but the choice is entirely theirs, and any child who expects that it should go their way is nothing more than a petulant infant screaming "mine!" at a toy someone else owns.

Knowing that DU always assumes personal reasons for opinions, none pertain here. I will almost assuredly die before my dad, who is neither rich nor poor, and who I am pretty sure has willed whatever he leaves to his kids, me included in theory, equally divided. Never asked him but at least that was his stated intent a while back. My own neither rich nor poor estate will go equally predictably to my wife with a contingency to her daughter should by some evil miracle she die before me. I have never "lost out on" or uniquely determined an inheritance. Like almost all my opinions, it's not about me.

7. Her auntie must not have like her. So it really wasn't "her" inheritance then was it.

16. It's not okay that wackos con people out of money. It is okay that she
is not getting the inheritance that she thought she was. It's about her aunt, not her.

18. Two different actions
1. Camping is a fraud albeit one the law cannot touch. He found a gullible idiot in the aunt.

2. Gullible idiot or not the aunt's money and estate are hers to do with as she wishes, even if that includes gifts to venal religious hucksters. It's not the would-be inheritor's decision or valid expectation in the slightest that she should get the money not the pastor.

10. It's not "your" inheritance, ffs
it was your aunt's property, which she could do with as she wanted.

14. put your feet in her shoes
had that have happened in my family, I would be pissed. Yes, it's about the money, but it's also about how her aunt was ripped off by the con artist.

19. Heartless? If she had spent time with her Aunt,
her aunt might not have turned to a cult to find meaning and purpose in her last days!

have known, long ago, what Family Radio was about.

15. Reminiscent of a Scene from Repo Man...
Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 10:26 AM by xocet
Reverend Larry (on the TV in the background as Otto enters his parents' house): "...for I walk with the Lord. Amen.

He said, "Larry, you and your flock shall see the promised land, but only if you first destroy the twin evils of godless communism abroad and liberal humanism at home. Oh joy! Hallelujah! Smash'em down!

Now, my friends, occasionally we get a letter from a viewer that says 'Now, the only reason Reverend Larry comes on your television set is because he wants your money, and you know what: they're right! I DO want your money, because GOD wants your money. ...
"

From: (www.imdb.com/title/tt0087995/)
Scene: (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axq71RFAYgo&NR=1)

That is quite a good movie.
