A Battle of Ideologies
Edited on Tue May-31-11 06:12 AM by kentuck
Whether we like it or not, there is a battle going on for the heart and soul of America. It's almost like the first Battle of Bull Run. The Republicans are in full battle gear and the Democrats have brought their picnic baskets.

As Democrats, we need to understand the nature and the seriousness of this battle. We cannot win by sitting on the fence hoping that the Republicans will destroy themselves. We must get into the battle. We must tell the people where we stand and what we stand for. It is not enough to go on television once a week and debate a Republican on the issue of the day, usually chosen by the corporate media.

Where do we stand on taxes? Do we continue to espouse the timid rates of the Clinton Administration? Or do we propose a rate more appropriate to the money that was taken from the people in the last decade. Yes, taken. The top has garnered more and more of the wealth of this country, at the detriment of everyone else.

Where do we stand on jobs? Does not every American that wants a job deserve one? There is no imagination in Washington.

Where do we stand on Medicare and Social Security? If we think those are programs that deserve saving, we had better start fighting for them and soon. Our elected officals are not doing the job. Standing on the sidelines is not enough. We need to turn this fight up a notch.

2. Making us...
the OTHER - BETTER party is essential right now. Never forgetting the many ways we need to reform the Democrats internally we still have the task of fighting as vigorously for our values as do the Re-pubs.
First order to to mark what distinguishes the liberals from the conservatives in the culture wars.

3. Can we start by getting rid of "democrats" like Harold Ford?
He holds no elected position, yet there he is,
on Meet the Press, speaking for ME.

He's worse than colmes.....

4. Anyone who continues waiting for an elected official, Dem or GOP, to save them isn't very bright
We can only save each other. And if we can't unite in that one endeavor its over.
