1. Yea, the movies with china in them.
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 12:56 PM by RandomThoughts
The plates in American Beauty, and the broken china in a recent video is about China totalitarian ideas moving into the USA.

So actually Christine O'Donnell was correct about that.

Although it happened way back with Reagan. Even part with Nixon. The corporations like the China system, since they don't have to worry about things like votes.

Also why they go after unions, since unions are workers having say in things. They want a strict hiarchy, if the person is said to be above you, he decides everything for you.

2. The books, CD's, cereal, medicines, cosmetics, milk, bread, bananas, ...?
Perhaps we should ask if WalMart is the actual manufacturer, or lay blame on Kellogg's, Revlon, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, .....

3. About eight years ago it was proposed by some
Democratic friends of mine that we need a law stating that in order to get a business license, big box stores like Wal-Mart should be required to sell 60% American made goods on their shelves. Now maybe this can't be done with our corrupt federal government, but it could be done at a local or state level.

When they find it's impossible to find enough American made goods, maybe they might start using some of their huge profits to start manufacturing goods here, or at least make loans to companies that can manufacture so they can stay in business. I know it would be a huge effort but we have to figure out how to reverse this trend somehow and it doesn't necessarily have to be my friends' idea.

4. Too bad Americans wouldn't protest stores like Wal-Mart for a week.

13. The fights (and hatred) here over the words Boycott WalMart are momentous
WartMart positions itself to be the ONLY place to shop in so many areas of this Country it is difficult to find another source of goods. And they are NOT the cheapest guys in town. Either in the stores or on the Internet. But those of lesser education are trapped by the beacon in the dark that is WartMart.

18. I hate Sprawl Mart.
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 03:46 PM by delightfulstar

I don't even consider going there unless it's the only place open at 3 a.m. I'd rather get my loaf of bread at the gas station. I boycott Sprawl Mart whenever possible. I'd rather shop at Target or a regular grocery store, where the quality of the products and service and employees are better. And best of all, I don't have to see things like this: http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/?p=29472 (Brace yourself...)

8. Am I the only one who thinks about the carbon footprint of just shipping from China to the US?
Can you imagine what that is doing to the planet?

Some of the materials go from the US to China, then get processed and shipped back.

9. Remember when WalMart first started
and it boasted of products being "Made in America"? Now that would be something if it was still true.

11. Our local WallyWorld manager was challenged by an irate woman
After a tirade, which included a scene witnessed by me and several hundred more, the manager was challenged to find one single item in the whole store that was made in America like Sam Walton himself promised. She paused for several minutes and announced there is a set of nail clippers made in the U.S.

She went up the aisle to grab a set and upon closer inspection it said "package proudly made in the USA"

A piece of cardboard! after all that show, the only thing the manager could find was a damn piece of cardboard.

Personally, I am very careful about any item I buy there, although rarely, I do have to venture in, and one thing for sure, the only apple juice I buy for my grandson is Whitehouse brand...all the others made from brazillian apples.
Gotta read the labels on everything.

12. People prove time and again they don't give a shit.
It amazes me on this board how many times people are surprised to find out something is no longer made here.

14. I've given up, people think I am biased against the Chinese and Japanese
not so. If the playing field was leveled, and we gave AMERICAN products equal footing in those countries as they get here, I'd be quiet.

But I will be long gone before that happens.

And I thank you for it. I've had those conversations in real life, and it's amazing what people are willing to rationalize away.

You're absolutely right about equal footing. That's all we're asking for. Give us a damn chance.

16. Walmart is CHINA
No need to travel abroad. Until America starts investing in America and Americans, then Walmart will be the only shopping entity in the world. They are not the only place to buy goods. They are usually just the most convenient.

17. Sam is rolling in his grave, I'm sure...
Wasn't he the one who touted Wally's "Made in the USA" products years ago? Now greed has gotten in the way, and Sprawl Mart not only ferries money off to China, but it also puts the screws to local businesses in many places by monopolizing the market share. I'm wondering why anti-trust charges can't be leveled against this company. Are they just too much of a behemoth for anyone to have the guts to try?
