although I might remember Jakob Honer born 20 Jun 1885 in Sunthausen and died 4 Jun 1918. A 4th cousin, three times removed on my mom's side. And Josef Hauser, born 13 Jan 1893 in Spaichingen, and died 29 May 1917. And Georg Renk, born 26 Jul 1893 in Spaichingen and died (gefallen) on 5 Oct 1918. It kinda shocked me going through those church records. It almost seemed like every male born in the 1890s died in WWI. Willie sorta seems mourned because he is one of "our" guys. Do we mourn the young men lost on the other side?

My grandfather was sort of a WWI veteran, he was in Washington finishing his basic training when the war ended, but Memorial Day was originally about the Civil War, and Armistice Day in November about WWI.
