The Miracle Dog, Shot 40 Times And Buried Alive Survives,..
It seems some animals can overcome even the most gruesome of fates.

These stories of survival are simply incredible, like this dog, who survived over 3 dozen gun shots from a pellet gun and a burial, according to TIME. The stray dog, named Star by her rescuers, was found buried up to her snout in sand in Malta.

It seems to be a miracle in and of itself that authorities were actually able to find her. According to the New York Daily News she also well hidden.

Officers investigating an unrelated case near the city of Birzebbuga last week heard faint whispers from under a plank with a tree stump on top of it. After removing the plank, they made the gruesome discovery: a dog buried alive in dirt up to its face, its snout and limbs tied up, and multiple bullet wounds in its head, The Times of Malta reported.

Because she was a stray, finding Star's assailant (or assailants) could be difficult, according to the Daily News. However, a number of Facebook pages have sprung up hoping to find her attacker.

1. I hate to think what will happen when that psychopath strikes again. Hope the dog
recovers fully and finds a loving home.

2. ...
Healing and transforming God, your love knows no boundaries, and in your sight every life is precious; look with compassion on Star, and make us your agents of healing in a broken world. Amen.

8. How sad.
I think the person responsible should be treated exactly the same as this dog was as punishment.

9. Man's cruelty to Animals
Edited on Sun May-29-11 03:32 PM by Vehl
Is a good indicator of how barbaric we still are. I hope there comes a day in the distant future when an Animal's rights are recognized and is allowed to share this world as who it is and not as some secondary-species subservient to humans.

PS: Laws against animal cruelty should be made much harsher...maybe on the same level as the laws for similar crimes against humans. When laws exist that give life in prison for the wanton killing of an animal..then crimes like these would lessen.

10. Our dog, Mikey, got loose when a utility worker left our gate open.
We looked everywhere with no luck. Several hours later, he came limping home with a cloth belt around his neck.

He was exhausted, wanting to just sleep, and we assumed it was due to whatever adventure he had been on. That evening, my daughter noticed that the hair between his eyes was moving as he breathed. Looking closely, we found a deep gash.

We raced him to an emergency vet clinic. Skull xrays showed that he had multiple pellet shots. Someone had shot him in his ear, behind his eyes, up both nostrils, and in his mouth. The wound we had first noticed ended up being from a blunt object of some sort that had punctured a hole in his sinus cavity.

The pellets could not be removed, but they ended up repairing the hole in his sinus with some sort of surgical plastic cement. It was well over $1,000.

Vet said there had to be at least two people involved, one to hold his head, and the other to shoot him. I knocked on doors, put an ad in the paper, and offered a large reward for any info on the demented assholes that would do this. No luck.

Mikey lived a few years more, but he was never the same. It still sickens me when I think about it.
