Typical debate with a Teapublican:

Me: With Medicare for all, everyone would have the ability to be healthy.

TP: I shouldn't have to pay for everyone else.

Me: Well you wouldn't, you would be paying for yourself and your family out of a universal pool. It would actually cost you less, and cover more. Everyone would be paying into the same pool... covering you as well.

TP: Sounds like a Socialist ploy to control my life.

Me: Do you prefer corporate control of your life, where a random insurance company can tell you what treatment you should receive?

TP: At least it's my own money that I control.

Me: You are paying a private company to deny you proper care... that is stealing, and indecent.

TP: At least it's voluntary, and not forced.

1. Winning this argument is easy.

  • Hawaiians have an average life expectancy of 84, the highest in the U.S. and one of the highest in the world. You do not live in Hawaii. Therefore, your life expectancy is lower than 84, and you will pay higher life insurance premiums than a Hawaiian. (Slyly mention where Obama was born.)

  • Administrative fees for Medicare, percentage wise, are in the single digits. Legally, private insurance companies only have to spend 85% of their income on actual health costs, where 15% is simply spent on administrative costs. If private insurance was better, it would spend less on administrative fees.

If you ask him or her for facts and references, and not conjecture and theories, his or her argument will fall apart.
