In face of ongoing appeal, Perugia police AWARD themselves for work on Knox case.
This is from the blog that the prosecutor Mignini succeeded in forcing Google to shut down -- till some server in Sweden picked it up again.

The local feast of the police, reported by local media, took place yesterday and: they managed to award themselves for the brilliant conduct of that investigation ! For their high professionalism, investigative skills and uncommon determination thanks to which a very complicated case was solved.

Today, exactly like 3 and a half years ago, the case doesn’t really look closed. Amanda and Raffaele certainly didn’t confess; the trial is still going on; the accusations even appears to be falling apart. But again, even with a changed scenario, they don’t need to wait for a conviction. Again they consider the case closed. They are so sure, that they accepted an award for it!

The now vice-questore aggiunto Marco Chiacchiera, who coordinated the operations; the sostituto commissario Monica Napoleoni, the ispettore capo Rita Ficarra, the assistente capo Lorena Zugarini, who cropped the signature of Raffaele and Amanda; the sovrintendente Stefano Gubbiotti who lied in court about the call to 112, Stefano Buratti, Stefano Sisani, Andrea Cardaioli, Davide Dominici, Mirko Gregori… the whole questura was awarded!

1. Hmmm...
Perhaps I've read Puzo's "Godfather" one too many times, but this sounds like the sort of behaviour that made the embryonic Mafias look like preferable authority alternatives in Southern Italy.

In other words, you'd rather go to your own feudal masters than rely on these Northern Garbanzos.

3. You know, that thought had occurred to me, too.
You can see why some people might prefer the Mafia.

Why is that?
