Study: Whites say they face more racism than blacks

Whites in America now believe that they face more racial bias than blacks, according to a recent study.

Samuel Sommers of Tufts University and Michael I. Norton of Harvard asked 208 blacks and 209 whites to use a 10-point scale to indicate how much they thought blacks and whites were a target of discrimination each decade from the 1950s through the 2000s.

Less than 2 percent of blacks and whites gave anti-white bias the maximum score in the 1950s. More than 9 percent of both groups also gave anti-black bias the maximum score for that same decade.

Blacks and white agreed that racism against blacks decreased as the decades progressed. But whites, unlike blacks, felt that anti-white bias had increased along with the drop in anti-black bias. Eleven percent of whites rated anti-white bias at the maximum during the 2000s, while only 2 percent of blacks did.

There results show whites and black see Anti-black bias similar across the decades but differ in how the see anti-white bias. While only a small percentage see white bias as greater than black bias today. The overall trend upward is both pretty clear. Most interesting to me is the black community is perhaps not totally immune to zero sum gain thinking and though the trend is slight there is a possible increase in anti-white bias in that group as well.

Since the authors state "Of course, our results are correlational in nature, and as such, they do not necessarily reveal
that Whites believe that decreases in anti-Black bias cause increases in anti-White bias; future research should explore the
causal nature of the robust link we observe." reading too much into this might be a bad thing :)

I doubt very much if the study really says what the Rawstory title says it does, and yet Rawstory, instead of presenting the story Raw - gives it some spin. Turns it into a "white people suck" story. They don't provide any data to back up their title. Apparently what "11% of whites say" gets transferred onto all whites. You might as well do a survey that finds 20% of white people do not believe in evolution and then title an article "whites don't believe in evolution".

Or, what the heck, go even further. Find .3% who say the world is flat and write an article titled "whites say the world is flat".

But apparently Rawstory does prove the point, that white people have to face a certain amount of racism just in the fact that some people will write articles with anti-white racist titles.

The "Perspectives in psychology" title also makes a sweeping claim about "whites" - "Whites See Racism as a Zero-Sum Game" but that article may provide more data to back up the title, unlike Rawstory. I'm not gonna pay $35 to read it though, just to find out.

Had an argument with a friend who mentioned that a comedian Epps was racist against white people because he called served and called the server a "white B*tch"

His point was that if the roles were reversed and the comedian white and the server black, it would have been much more of a fire storm and that wasn't fair. It was a double standard.

His only example though was richard kramer who did a lot more then call some "Black".

Even though, I could still maybe have seen his point except for one detail.

a few centuries of intitutionalized racism. Racism that set up privilege based on skin color.

Those that have this privilege rarely ever realize it. To them it's normal.

However, those that don't are often keenly aware and to them it's seems absurd that anyone could not have noticed it's there.

But in dealign with that, the playing field ha dot be leveled so a lot of that privilege had to be given up.

So if you think that privilege was actually an entitlement, it can seem as if you're being persecuted.
