GOP readies bill allowing states to use unemployment funding to reduce taxes
House Republicans are moving ahead with a bill that would let states use federal unemployment funds to reduce state taxes or take other steps they think will lead to job creation.

Democrats have argued for months that the GOP has not brought a "jobs" bill to the floor. But they are expected to continue to oppose H.R. 1745 — the Jobs, Opportunity, Benefits and Services (JOBS) Act — as it would give states options other than continuing to provide unemployment benefits according to current federal requirements.

During a Ways and Means Committee markup of the bill on May 11, ranking member Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) criticized the bill as something that would "end the guarantee of federal unemployment insurance."

The House Rules Committee is preparing to approve a rule for the bill, and might do so this week. But the bill was not on House leadership's schedule for floor consideration as of Monday morning, and given the busy week ahead, it could be pushed off to early June.

1. They want to use money meant to help struggling workers and their families
to give tax cuts to the wealthy?

2. If you give money to rich people they might hire another maid
You and I on the other hand, would just spend it on alcohol and drugs.

6. Tell that to the Republicans
They simply can not get it through their thick heads that people buying goods and services spur economic growth.

7. You hit the nail on the head. They KNOW it won't create jobs - they just want all the money.
There's not one thing they've done in at least the last decade to improve the economy. And this endless crap of tax incentives for companies which threaten to move out of state has got to stop.

8. I thought that unemployment was extended to help the unemployed
Edited on Tue May-24-11 02:05 PM by Angry Dragon
so the rich could keep their cuts

If that is the case then tax cuts for the rich then should be axed
only fair

I guess if you make a deal with a repug you can expect them to be dishonest later

Obama better learn something here

10. This makes no logical sense
Unemployment is paid for by employers. Tax cuts for the rich to have more play money accomplishes what exactly?

11. Back in 2010 congress and Obama had to agree
to extend the tax cuts for the rich to get unemployment money
now the repugs want to take away the unemployment money from the unemployed
I say then congress should un-extend the tax cuts for the rich

It seems the repugs want to make a deal and then find ways to renege on the deal
Back stabbers and liars

13. They introduce some bills that should choke them.
This is one of them. I hope this bill gets the same reception as their war on Medicare.
