1. Howard Dean 2012!
Too bad it won't happen, but it would be a much better choice than what we got now.

11. He's more conservative than Obama by most measures
I'm not sure how a centrist like Dean has managed to get people who are disappointed in Obama excited about him.

5. I Love Howard, But..............
..........I think he'll probably be too old by 2016. He'll be pushing 70 by then. Plus, I don't think he has any interest in being President anymore.

My guy for 2016 is Sherrod Brown. I'd be so excited about a Sherrod Brown candidacy that I'd be willing to do just about anything to help him win, including working for his campaign.

8. He's old school liberal.
Sadly, there isn't enough support for that sort of liberalism anymore.

9. Not really
What about his tenure in VT makes you consider him an "old school liberal"? He's pretty much a centrist. He appears angry on TV so progressives swoon (and, that's good; he raised a lot of money for the DNC) but this idea that he has a fundamentally different platform from the rest of the party just isn't true.

10. Is appearing to be angry on television all it takes to get DU love?
Edited on Tue May-24-11 12:11 AM by Recursion
He's against gun control, he's for civil unions for homosexual couples but until very recently wasn't for marriage equality, he used tax breaks to get corporations to move to Vermont, he's pro-death-penalty, has a C- from NORML, supports amending but not repealing NAFTA and the WTO, supports trade with China, favors the Baucus-esque healthcare framework of getting coverage first and improving it later, believes in subsidies for corporations that hire people, has said he's willing to raise the SS retirement age to 70 with the right concessions, is against a Federal estate tax, and has been endorsed 8 times by the NRA.

I like the guy, but he's more conservative than Obama.

12. I want him back in charge of the DNC.
He's a proven behind the scenes strategist.

13. He's a proven fundraiser, but that's dwarfed by OFA
Though OFA built on what he started, so it's kind of apples and oranges.

14. I'll say this...he might win Vermont.
Won't win much else.

When I select Presidential candidates, I look at both their positions and their management skills, especially those involved in running a Presidential campaign. Dean doesn't have them. Set aside "the scream", and any complaints you might have about media coverage, he couldn't generate the votes in Iowa, and I saw his campaign collapsing organizationally in New Hampshire.
