Saudi Arabia, UAE funded jihadi networks in Pakistan: Wikileaks cable

(Reuters) - Islamic charities from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates financed a network in U.S. ally Pakistan that recruited children as young as eight to wage holy war, a local newspaper reported on Sunday, citing Wikileaks.

A U.S. diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks said financial support estimated at $100 million a year was making its way from those Gulf Arab states to a jihadist recruitment network in Pakistan's Punjab province, Dawn newspaper reported.

The November 2008 dispatch by Bryan Hunt, the then principal officer at the U.S. consulate in Lahore, was based on discussions with local government and non-governmental sources during trips to Punjab, Pakistan's most populous province.

It said those sources claimed that financial aid from Saudi and United Arab Emirates was coming from "missionary" and "Islamic charitable" organizations ostensibly with the direct support of those countries' governments.

1. I remember vividly- after 911 the Saudis having a telethon to raise money
Edited on Sun May-22-11 07:08 PM by notadmblnd
Does anyone else? So why should anyone be surprised?

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — More than $100 million has been collected in a telethon that ended Saturday to raise money for the Palestinians and also allowed Saudis to vent their anger against Israel and the United States on state-owned television.

Ordinary Saudis taking part have shown support for Palestinian suicide bombings at a time when President Bush is demanding that all Arab governments unequivocally condemn such attacks.

A 6-year-old boy, with a plastic gun slung over his shoulder and fake explosives strapped around his waist, walked into a donation center and made a symbolic donation of plastic explosives, according to Al Watan daily.

Another Saudi, 26-year-old Mohamed al-Qahtani, offered his car, saying he hoped it will "reach the Palestinian areas so a Palestinian fighter could use it to blow up a military barracks and kill (Israeli) soldiers," Al Watan reported.

Saudi Arabia's ruler, King Fahd, ordered the fund-raising drive to help channel mounting public anger against Israel and the United States away from street protests, which the kingdom bans for fear they would get out of control.

This have been known by many, for a long time, that UAE, and Saudi-Arabian charitable organisation, in fact have been front organizations for terrorism... And most of "us" know, that it have happend, with the approal from the different government.. Not offcial, but unofficial the government of UAE, and Saudi-Arabia have supported and given aid to a lot of terrorism. And it have been funneled billions wort of money to other organisations, who have less than human in their actions.. Like blowing up pepole, using kids who should be at school...

Kids are easy to pray on - and easy to convince to do as grown ups want it to do.. Its the nature of children I guess...
