1. No. It's my assumption that most pro athletes do so.
If any of that were really about the "nobility of the sport/game," etcetera, they'd be happy to take home salaries with six digits, not eight.

2. The cyclists I know have always told me that they believed this.
I have no knowledge of the sport, but I assume it goes on in every sport.

4. His two closest team mates have said it is true. And Tyler Hamilton comes across as very credible.

But the blame does not rest upon Lance Armstrong.

The blame rests upon a system which accepts it all with a wink and a nod.

Can you imagine taking a rest break during the Tour de France to be transfused with your own blood to give you the muscle oxygen you need to ace the race?

And a post race drug test would reveal precisely WHAT about the presence of your own blood in your system?

5. Tyler Hamilton lied before
Why should we believe him now? If I recall, he was caught and banned for it himself but tried to blame some weird genetic conditions for the test results. He has no credibility.

12. Caught in prior lies which save his team mates and the sport is all the motivation he needs.
Edited on Sun May-22-11 07:03 PM by sharesunited
It damages not one bit his veracity at some come clean moment.

If you are suggesting that subpoena power aggressively pursued is somehow un-American because it unseats a hero, then let's illustrate, demonstrate, and remonstrate.

20. Well, they could detect an excessive concentration
of red blood cells, I suppose. Assuming they had a "normal" test to compare it to, that was taken when it was certain he hadn't recently had blood transfused.

6. Umm, no,
People are saying Armstrong doped. Yet he has never failed a drug test.

Hmmm, which to believe. . .?

7. If you look at the particulars, the 'never failed a test' does not hold water.
Sports Illustrated did an investigation of the story in the last year, and there is credible evidence that he doped. That's one big reason why the investigation continues in earnest.

11. What particulars?
There are lots of ifs, buts, and maybes, but the fact of the matter is that after hundreds of tests, never once was he disbarred.

8. Barry Bonds never failed a test either.

Armstrong doped. There is no question about it. Cycling is the most drugged out sport on the planet. At the height of cycling there were more steroid users in that sport than there probably were in bodybuilding. Do the research. Thats not an exaggeration. Armstrong was using and so was his competition. You have to be extraordinarily naive to think otherwise.

10. Well, he's not poor and he's not stupid.
Its highly possible he's found a way to cheat that cannot be detected by a drug test.

16. I must say that I naively believed him for years
However, I just can't believe that all of these people are lying. Sadly, I do believe that the vast majority of professional athletes dope (so long as it is an advantage in their sport) but some are just smarter about getting away with it.

23. I don't believe it.
I have my reasons. My brother is a semi-prof rider and he knows Lance personally. I tend to believe him and he claims Tyler is trying to sell his book.
