Poll question: Are you willing to learn a little American Sign Language?
Inspired by this thread:

Where one of us sees a van with a DU bumper sticker but has no reasonable way to communicate with the driver of that vehicle.

The "D" and the "U" are very easy to learn and I would suggest them as our "Gang Sign" (for lack of a better term).

Charts are posted on that thread also.

4. very rarely, but what about a sticker that just had those signs?
For people who live in areas where having a DEMOCRATICUNDERGROUND.com sticker is like a Bullseye?

T-Shirts and hats for us to wear to rallies so we can spot each other

Once we establish that we are using these signs (or others) then the uses for them may materialize for them without our intervention.

9. I have a gay sticker on my car....i've survived so far
even when i taught out in the sticks I had a sticker on my car (at the time a yellow 1972 VW convertable...SO gay). I never had a problem.

I have a DU sticker on its way to me in the mail and i have every intention of sticking it on my car!

2. ASL
I was head statistician for the Canadian Deaf Curling Championship in 1990. While we and the officials had ASL translators when we had to communicate with the players, I picked up a few signs by osmosis.

5. Not a good idea to flash hand signs at other drivers in Los Angeles
:-)

6. I'd watch expectantly for the Boy Scout sign next.
One finger. Two fingers. ... Three fingers.

During the wait I'd probably crash into somebody. Or the person flashing the "gang" signs (since DU functions at times like a gang--not a particularly functional gang) would do the crashing.

7. Other...when I worked with developmentally disabled people...
I knew the whole Alphabet and quite a few signs for whole words too.

That was 23 years ago, and I've forgotten everything except the sign for "toilet".

figures.

8. I keep my hands on the steering wheel, and my eyes on the road.
No ASL signs coming from me, that's for sure. Never mind the danger of hand signs in some places.
