There is something different this morning.
For the first time this year, there are birds singing in the trees outside the window of where I live.

3. If you feed them they sing.
Coughing is how they politely try to tell you "eh buddy c'mon feed a friggin' bird over here already, while you're at it would kills ya to build us a house?".

4. "Security" lighting can turn birds into insomniacs
This is something I discovered while unable to sleep myself.

16. I remember those in L.A.
I loved them when I first moved from NJ to CA. We don't have night birds in Oklahoma, except owls, but we do have a brazillion toads.

8. My backyard is a State Park (comes right up to my window)
Edited on Sun May-22-11 09:10 AM by lunatica
This year the nesting birds we have around here are Blue Jays, Crows and Hawks along with Finches and Robins and cooing Doves. Talk about a racket! Anything or anyone that gets too close to these birds not only gets and earful but also gets dive bombed. Then we also have a Fox that occasionally decides to do it's strange and creepy scream/bark at night. We also have plenty of Dear, but they're quiet.

I love living here. It's a condo community nestled in a valley surrounded by hills (at the edge of the State Park). The only down side is the very poor public transportation.

9. I heard birds singing in the trees outside my window for the first time a week ago.
That's because it finally got warm enough outside to have my windows open. :)

10. Around Here, Ma'am, the Crows Are Coming Back
I like them, and missed them. There was some avian virus swept through them here a few years ago, and they practically disappeared locally. We have a pretty good assortment of birds for a city location, actually.

13. I'm glad to hear that. The crows have arrived here, as well.
Although once the crows arrive, the ravens, who provide such lively and fascinating company throughout the winter, generally betake themselves elsewhere. I'm always sad to see the ravens move on in the spring.

Some ravens remain, of course. But the huge raucus communities who call and whistle and rollick across the tree tops in winter are largely gone once the crows return. It's a phenomenon I've observed over my 13 years in this location.

15. Me too. Sometimes I like to turn off stuff in the house
so I can hear them better.

Oh, and later in the year we'll be getting the wild turkeys parading up and down the driveway doing their yearly harem gathering thing.

Gobblegobblegobblegobblegobble.....

Outside the bedroom window at 5 AM.

12. You think you've got it bad?? I've got birds stomping around my
yard every morning and whipoorwills singing in the meadow all night long. Jays and crows hollering in the woods behind the house. Dogs barking all hours of the day and night, roosters crowing at the break of dawn! It's grand living in the country. Neighbors are too close and there's not much traffic noise.
