Al Gore hits out at Rupert Murdoch (Murdoch kills liberal TV news channel for hiring Oberman)

Former US vice-president says media giant is forcing his liberal Current TV service off air in Italy for hiring Keith Olbermann

Former US vice-president Al Gore has hit out at Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, accusing it of "an abuse of power" by forcing his liberal TV station off air in Italy because it did not fit in with the media giant's "ideological agenda".

AH...you see how it works? If Murdoch can't keep the papers and channels he owns in line...He will just simply kill the channel. I hope this helps to kill Murdoch's attempt at taking over BSKYB--the big cable network in England. Murdoch has sworn if the govt. lets him takes it over he will spin off the news section of BSKYB and not touch/influence it. BUT...now we know...if he can't touch it, he's willing to kill it.

This is a chilling reminder to liberal media... Murdoch and his minions will destroy the liberal media if given the chance.

1. How much does this cost Current TV? Is there any alternative?
I don't get it now and can't find it anywhere. Was hoping things would change but it has been months now.

3. Surely there will be YouTube videos of the program
I can't find a way to view Current TV live via their web site. But there's a Hulu link at the bottom of the CTV pages. http://current.com/

Welcome to DU! :hi:

12. There are free CurrentTV podcasts on the net. I bet Keith's show will
be available that way. I watch them in iTunes, there are other services that have them too if you google around.

14. sure...but no more stumbling over them as you flip channels
no more seeing it in the line up. It makes the liberal message harder to find. THen the bulk of the population settles for CNN which is very insidious in how it sells polls that show obama behind, maps that show lots of red states emphasized.

It also gives the conservatives more hold in another country...then you have bastardized political love affairs like reagan and thatcher working in cahoots to make each other look more powerful in the eyes of their statesmen, and, by doing so, force their political agenda on the masses.

10. No, Dish TV is not owned by Murdoch...
I've had Dish TV since 1995 and I know for a fact that Murdoch does not own it. However, Murdoch did own DirecTV at one point in time, but I read that he does not own it currently.

11. Murdoch has never had an interest in Dish. Now DirecTV on the other hand...
... had Murdoch involvement but divested its investment in DirecTV in agreement with Liberty Media - basically Liberty gave up its stock in NewsCorp for NewsCorp's entire DirecTV stock.

Murdoch has no significant ownership interest in DirecTV.

6. Not just money though...Italy just lost a big chunk of its liberal media
How often do you stop when flipping channels because you saw something interesting? What Murdoch is doing is silencing the left...removing anything liberal from the airways that he can. You see it on his cable channels. Shows that used to be about science suddenly looking into the science of the Bible. History channels airing shows about God vs. satan and making that "history". (it is history...but religious history). It is an evil evil scheme to push their agenda and silence anyone who disagrees.

BUT...on the good side, the internet has allowed the liberal media and people like us to become the mouthpieces of the left. We are kinda the new media! WE little DUers and people like us are the balance to Rupert Murdoch and his minions.

WELCOME TO DU!!!

2. I wish there was a way to take out Ruppert Murdoch.
Honestly, I would like to see our Justice department go after him with the same fervor they are going after Julian Assange and Wikileaks.

13. It
Because he is sending a message to ALL the media he owns, do not air shows like Oberman's.

from Wikipidia: in late 2003, Murdoch acquired a 34 percent stake in Hughes Electronics, the operator of the largest American satellite TV system, DirecTV, from General Motors for $6 billion.

He owns fox and quite a few tv stations (or used to when he formed fox broadcasting) and newspapers. He just punished an entire channel for airing a show he didn't approve of. Often when murdoch takes over a paper or a channel he promises not to influence their content...but, as we've seen in England, he has broken those promises and turned the papers into tools for his political agenda. He is currently trying to take over satellite tv in England. All those English channels now know if they air shows with Oberman or other liberals they might lose their job/show/channel depending on the infraction.

And if he'd do it to italy, if he's done it in ENgland, you know he'd do it here.
