HOUSTON— Newly-released e-mails from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality show the agency’s top commissioners directed staff to continue lowering radiation test results, in defiance of federal EPA rules.

The e-mails and documents, released under order from the Texas Attorney General to KHOU-TV, also show the agency was attempting to help water systems get out of formally violating federal limits for radiation in drinking water. Without a formal violation, the water systems did not have to inform their residents of the increased health risk.

“It’s a conspiracy at the TCEQ of the highest order,” said Tom Smith, of the government watchdog group Public Citizen. “The documents have indicted the management of this commission in a massive cover-up to convince people that our water is safe to drink when it’s not.”

What is called fluoride in the US drinking water is actually hundreds of toxic chemicals that are the left-over waste from aluminum (which usually contains uranium and other radioactive isotopes) mining, and was sold by ALCOA , et al. through shoddy bought-and-paid-for pseudo science as a profit center.

You need to study some elementary chemistry to understand how wrong your notion of a "basic ingredient" is. Sarin is not poisonous because it contains fluoride, it is poisonous because it reacts with a particular enzyme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin#Biological_effects The fluorine compound just happens to have the "right" reactivity -- a more reactive compound would react with water before it could act as a toxin. The fluoride here is just a "leaving group" -- it's the rest of the molecule that does the damage. And the presence of a fluorine substituent in a drug does not mean it forms inorganic fluoride (the form added to drinking water) in the body. Very likely, the drug is metabolized and the metabolite excreted with the fluorine still attached.

Sodium fluoride is very, very cheaply available in bulk form. It is not some "byproduct" that is being dumped. The quantity needed for fluoridation of drinking water is miniscule -- no one is getting rich off of fluoridating drinking water.

There's no connection between fluoride and the OP. Most radioactivity in natural water supplies is leached from uranium minerals -- tha is, a naturally occuring radioactive material (NORM). Much of that makes its way into the water table from the waste produced by deep drilling for oil and gas. It is a serious concern, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with your bugbear, fluoride.
