1. The three theories floating around LA land today are

A) person with child about to go public to cash in on divorce news

B) would go public in divorce proceedings (I.E. Maria knew for a while and was going to use it)so trying to get ahead of story

C) News would publicly embarrass Maria since it makes her look like a fool for sticking with him. He's bitter she left him only political and possible Hollywood career over.

He is technically unemployed and likely in financial trouble.

7. I read in one of my forums

That Maria was out to dinner with Oprah and friends when she got the call; said that the LA Times was going to publish the story whether he admitted it or not, so he decided he needed to go ahead and release the statement.

12. I'd say that it basically comes down

to the fact that something like this cannot be kept secret forever. I'm somewhat surprised that it didn't come out years ago and to me THAT'S the bigger story. Was he paying off the mother? Did he stop paying? Did she decide that the kid needs a more secure financial future and is only now asking for money? Did she simply get to the point where she was willing to go public no matter who was hurt?
