"from an early age" doesn't sound like the appropriate age. Also, although I do agree that sex education should include information about contraceptives as well as the benefits of abstention, I don't think the use of contraceptives should be "pushed" over abstinence. Neither do I think that abstinence should be the only thing taught. It's a fact that many teenagers do become sexually active before marriage, and unless someone finds a way to change mother nature, I don't see how that is going to change anytime soon. I think that IF teens do choose to become sexually active against the counsel given them, then they should have knowledge about contraceptives so that the harm from their actions is hopefully limited. Hopefully they will not contract an STD or become pregnant before they would like to.
I am pro-choice for the first trimester of pregnancy. I've come to this moral decision by giving it a great deal of thought, prayer, reading scripture, reading writings from religious teachers I respect, and most importantly reading scientific reports that convinced me more harm would be done by not having legalized abortion, than by having it.
BTW, welcome to DU.
Oh, and I also think overpopulation is going to cause us some real problems down the road. We are running out of potable water, good arable land, fisheries, rare metals, etc. and I don't know if technology is going to rescue us from this, this time.
