Can you talk a little bit about how you came to favor civil unions for gay couples?

I’ve always been in favor of traditional marriage and thinking that you open Pandora’s Box when you start to redefine it. But we’ve had friends who are gay and we’ve heard horror stories , and I thought it was an appropriate time.

You also believe in climate change, right?

This is an issue that ought to be answered by the scientific community; I’m not a meteorologist. All I know is 90 percent of the scientists say climate change is occurring. If 90 percent of the oncological community said something was causing cancer we’d listen to them. I respect science and the professionals behind the science so I tend to think it’s better left to the science community – though we can debate what that means for the energy and transportation sectors.

2. The GOP supporters of John Huntsman
are IMO the only survivors of the pragmatic Republicans. These are the ones that cling to a hope that the party may retain at least a shred of dignity. They are a dying breed like the old South supporters of the Democratic Party.

Think Zell Miller of Georgia, the only reason he maintained his Democratic identity is because his daddy had it and it was them Republicans that took away his grand-daddies field hands.

3. Huntsman is who Obama fears most
The anybody but Obama and the anybody but a Republican crowds are fixed. This is a race to claim the centrist independents. Who do you think Obama has been courting the last few years?
Huntsman is more capable than any other Republican so far to make that appeal.
I worry when I stop and think about who has best kept their extremes loyal and excited.

4. Huntsman, like Romney, is Mormon, which means....
Not only will he never win a general election, due to the feelings of the hard-core religious in this country towards mormons, but he won't even stand a chance at the Republican nomination.
