I Love The Kennedys, But Can I Forgive Maria For NOT Speaking Out? ---NO!
Edited on Tue May-17-11 08:25 AM by kpete
she should have spoken out for CALIFORNIA

Speaking to reporters after the speech, Shriver described her husband of 17 years as "an extraordinary man" and took issue with the characterization that he behaves boorishly towards women.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/10/03/shriver/

she had the chance, but I think THEY wanted MORE

Now, debate over a proposed 28th Amendment is focused on the popularity and political future of one man: macho Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former bodybuilder and action-movie star who has been California's governor for barely a year.

With a bit of encouragement from the Terminator himself, some of Schwarzenegger's supporters are pushing for a constitutional amendment that would allow the Austrian-born governor to run for the White House as soon as 2008. Schwarzenegger is blocked by Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution. It reads, "No person except a natural born citizen ... shall be eligible to the office of president." The 12th Amendment says the vice president cannot be foreign-born.

My state has been DEVASTATED!

HERES HOPING GOVERNOR MOONBEAN BRINGS US BACK!

peace, kpete
oh, and by the way, I won't even get started with my feelings about Arnold...

UPDATE: I AM AN ANGRY BITCH TODAY
forgive me if i seem a bit judgmental
i usually try to stay away from that shit

but 70 of our beautiful parks are going to be shut down, schools are losing the battle to succeed, Californians are losing their shirts, homes, WATER SUCKS, regulations are abused, old and disabled people are out on the street....
i could go on - but perhaps some of you might understand, that i used DU to vent my anger (possibly at the wrong target)
something i do rarely.

The Kennedy's aren't exactly known for openly discussing their personal problems, either.

4. Over here in Boston-town, it's been reported that ...
she didn't want to speak out about it until both her parents, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver, had passed away and wait until his governorship was over.

That was her choice; maybe not the best choice in some people's eyes, but it was hers.

21. What we're going to find is that Maria has been co-signing his bs
for their whole marriage. During the campaign stories about his sexual predations bubbled up in the press but the right wing media didn't let them get big.

You are such a prolifically profound poster yet I'm not often sure when something is your opinion or something you've gleaned from elsewhere.

I don't pay a whole lot of attention to celebrity fodder but I did hear that Maria wasn't aware of the "love child" until after he left office.

Who knows if that's true or not.

best

12. What was she supposed to have spoken out against?
Edited on Tue May-17-11 08:20 AM by pipi_k
Or for?

They just showed a clip from 2003 in which she vehemently denies he was doing what all those women accused him of.

Looked like she believed him.

Yeah, a guy can have a reputation for being a boor, but that doesn't mean he's groping everyone he sees. It's he said, she said usually.

Not that I'm defending him...it's just a little more difficult to prove than a child via extramarital affair.

But really...bashing on Maria because she "didn't speak out"? He was her husband. They may have been happy at the time. And maybe she was raised with more class than to air dirty laundry in public.

PS...like the others said, she didn't know about the child until just recently.

15. She didn't know.
1) Her husband didn't tell her from the start or during the ten years of the child's existence.

2) The husband of the employee actively acknowledged paternity.

3) The child probably didn't resemble AS enough to make the connection if MS saw the child at all.

14. I don't blame Maria
but, she knew what he was when she married him. She may have even expected it.

But, I agree we have no business to 'blame' her. Live and let live. It's her pain and she does't need anymore from the general public.

23. Why do we always blame the wife--the victim of the cretin husband?
Edited on Tue May-17-11 09:03 AM by hlthe2b
Yes, Maria knew about his history of womanizing, but according to current reports, she just NOW learned about the affair and "love child."

Was she in denial? Should she have known? Did she suspect? Who knows? All I know is that she is horrendously humiliated in a very public way that most of us (fortunately) can never really understand.

Say anything you wish about Arnold. He deserves everything and more. Was he a terrible governor? No doubt. But, from what I have seen of the RETHUGs in your state--in your legislature-- it goes much deeper than Schwarzenegger. Maybe this will finally spur a major "House Cleaning." I am very saddened at the park closure and other austerity measures being brought about by their irresponsibility. But, why would one spouse bear the brunt of all of that?

I guess I'm not lucky enough to have that skill.

The one that enables people to KNOW what other people "knew".

did she suspect? Perhaps.

But suspicion and actually knowing something are two different things.

Kind of like when my first husband cheated on me with one of my sisters. I suspected. But I didn't KNOW until he actually confessed.

How about Laura Bush and the Iraq War. Your rage is misplaced.

Sorry California is in the ditch right now but its the celebrity-fixated California electorate that deserves the blame. Now Gov Brown is cleaning up Arnold's mess, just like President Obama is cleaning up W's.

While I never understood her attraction to Arnold and it was disappointing that she publicly supported his candidacy (though privately, she did not apparently), I think she is now living a private hell due to the choices she has made for the sake of her marriage and family.
