FReeper begs for medical help for daughter, and gets it from us.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2720227/posts

On this thread an Oklahoma FReeper discusses a very dire situation concerning his sick daughter and his inability to get necessary medical attention for his loved one due to his lack of insurance and our horrific system that leaves those without means wanting for life saving care. A recent update states that the poster has gotten an appointment for his child at Oklahoma University Medical University where he will pay nothing as the care is provided through tax payer funds.

This is not a "see I told you so" or "they are such hypocrites" thread. This is my way of saying I am proud to be a tax payer (though not an Okie) and I am pleased that such care is available. I pray that a larger percentage of my tax dollars go to helping my neighbors, even right wingers who need help, and fewer dollars go to corporate handouts and weapons systems.

I pray for the health of this child and maybe the story will have changed one mind. Under the skin, we are all sons, daughters, brothers and sisters and we all need help from time to time. As an American I hope to be there for others.

Peace.

1. define "us"

Us as in taxpayers or us as in DUers

I'm confused

2. Us taxpayers, neighbors, citizens.
When we support programs to provide for those who need help, we help everyone who needs it, regardless of ideology. I'm hopeful that this situation works out for someone who I disagree with, but share a nation with.

17. I kinda wish it was from us at DU.
That would have been such a great idea, and I didn't think about it until now. Shame on me.

21. I was thinking that too...
Well I suppose there would still be time to maybe take up a collection to help a bit.

Maybe buy the kid some clothes or toys.

I wouldn't be against such a thing...

26. I wish I could post a message for her without signing up
on that site. I would have asked what we at DU can do to help. It really is what we do best, even to a Freeper whose screen name is something-something-luv-W. But kids are kids.

BTW, the last posts indicate that they did see the doctor, had some tests that they don't have results for yet, but the doctor thinks she might be faking. God, I hope that isn't true.

4. Isn't that what makes the left different from the right?
Empathy and willingness to help anyone in any situation no matter their beliefs? Sure after the fact we can shove it down their throats about how if they followed their "beliefs" the tragedy would have gotten much worst, but they got the help they needed.

11. people are people
that is what I believe. I can disagree, but it doesn't matter when the nuts and bolts of things boil down. I don't play politics, especially when it involves any kind of child. As an abused child growing up; I know children have no choice in parents and deserve whatever community can give them. Politics is too volatile, and clouds good nature to me. I cringe at the thought of any child suffering.

5. Easy to be a theoretical conservative until reality bites you in the ass.
Some of us don't need the bite to understand it. Others get bitten, take advantage of the socialism, but maintain fealty to the idea for everyone else to forgo the same benefits.

38. Yes, they tend to rationalize the assistance
THEY receive from the public and continue to believe that everyone ELSE who needs help is a lazy, worthless parasite. IIRC, there are posts over there about how the parent of the sick kid is on Unemployment and has no insurance through no fault of her own, as if that's unusual.

9. With all the crap the freepers have dished our way, it is amazing
you have empathy for one of theirs and give aid..You are correct, that we are all in this together and what you have done is the Christian thing..whether you are indeed a Christian or not. By their actions you shall know them.

28. I believe that the world changes in centimeters, in hearts.
Do kindness to those who would do you harm.

I hope that his child is graciously and effectively treated. I hope that my countrymen know that we are here for each other. When the chips are down we stop the argument, get the problem solved and then likely get back to the argument.

One heart at a time. One act of kindness at a time.

and post more threads about how socialism is BAD and BIG GUMMINT can't do anything right.

I'm glad his daughter is going to get the help she needs but I doubt the Freeper learned anything about the value of government.

Now if Crystal were an illegal, no sweat, just walk into any ER and you get FREE full care.

You ever try to get into a doc’s office or hospital with NO money? No ins? Only if you are an illegal.

27. Or how about....
"The other thing also is, I thought ALL children nation wide, if there parents make only so much money a year qualify for Medicare/Medicaid(I get the two mixed up, it’s one or the other) My niece and her husband make around 50-60,000 a year and both of their boys get state health care."

Ummm, what part of bootstraps does this one not understand?

30. Thanks to all DUers who took this opportunity to wish them well.
Someone on the thread alluded to it, but it helps to grease the wheels of change by extending good wishes to those who are in need, particularly someone who might otherwise curse us.

I'm proud to be a DU'er and am confident that sincere prayers and wishes will be answered.

Maybe this child's healing will influence a tiny bit of societal healing as well.

33. Why doesn't he avail himself of SCHIP?
I loved it when I needed it while going to college and my kid was little. I bout insurance through the University of Wyoming for myself, and our SCHIP (Wyoming KidCare) bridged the funds I didn't have to make a BCBS of Wyoming policy for my daughter **very** affordable. SCHIP is a great program.

39. Ya know
I've read through this thread, kinda gathered some things. I won't even bother to go to FR - don't need to raise my blood pressure this high this late at night.

I will say this -- if it is a child - this child, regardless of his/her parent's political leanings, deserves health care. EVERY child does. I don't care how backward the parent is, I don't care if the parent dons a white robe on weekends and dances around a burning cross (an act which I abhor) - this is a child. A CHILD. We are not a society if we do not care for our weakest and most vulnerable citizens - the children, the elderly, the animals. Call me goofy or idealistic, this is what I believe, this is what, IMO, makes us a community.

'Nuff said.
