Romney phone bank raises $10.25M in a single day

(AP) – 2 hours ago

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mitt Romney wants his money to show his might.

The all-but-declared Republican presidential contender, who has kept his head low for much of the year as he collected cash, raised $10.25 million in a single day Monday after bringing together his network of wealthy donors to dial for dollars in a city with no shortage of them. It's a hefty one-day total that Romney's team hopes will show his strength in the emerging GOP field.

Romney's phone bank fundraiser at the Las Vegas Convention Center, much like one during his first attempt at the Republican nomination, was the centerpiece of a series of fundraising events that included a conference call with volunteers who were asked to solicit their friends and neighbors for donations.

"This is a big kickoff for us, for our fundraising effort. It's kind of a celebration," Romney told the more than 400 supporters tuned in to watch him host a brief town hall-style broadcast on Facebook. "It's important to me that we get that started, the ball rolling today."

In truth, the former Massachusetts governor has spent the better part of the year raising money for a campaign he has yet to officially launch.

2. If dollars were votes..........
unfortunately, Mitt's going to have to run in the primaries in order to get the nomination. Of course, I suppose the RNC could decide to discount the results of the primaries altogether, than proceed to crown him their choice at the Convention. That would be interesting...

5. So he probably called Salt Lake City and asked his fellow Mormons for help.
Let's see him repeat this elsewhere.

9. Most of the big business community wants Romney.
They also know that he is viable as he is not a right wing kook. He is petty opportunist, and will do what he must to get the nomination (which is not likely),
but he does not come off as an extremist kook, therefore making him viable to the general electorate.

10. On a serious note
Let Romney be the candidate. He will never get about 20 percent of the conservative religious Republican vote. Obama walks in. It is a good thing. Let him raise billions for that matter. He has a handicap to his own party.
